The only thing I don't care for with the AHB2 is the placement of the XLR inputs and speaker output binding posts in relation to each other. The inputs are on the bottom row, and the outputs are directly above them, in close proximity. It's fine for banana plugs on the speaker cables, but for spade connectors, or bare wire (my preference), it can be tricky, since the 'entry point' for spades or bare wire is on the underside of the binding posts.

I just received the AHB2 late this afternoon & just got 'er all hooked up. Yes the real estate on the back panel is tight.
To hook up my REL S812 sub via high level spade connectors I just tilted the amp on its side & that made it a breeze. Coming from a 80lb A21+ I'll live with a little congestion. After all once it's all hooked up you pretty much leave it alone.
Will be doing some listing this evening.

Interesting design on that AHB2. I guess the simple description would be that Benchmark made an A/B amp with a sophisticated switch mode power supply? No big transformer or huge banks of filter caps. Looking forward to your impressions vs the beasty Parasound. I used to have a Halo A21 as well.

Oh, are you only using the AHB2 for your sub? I thought you were going to use them with your JBL bookies.

REL recommends hooking up there subs via high level cable (a 30' cable is supplied by REL) You simply tap off the amps binding posts. The cable is terminated with their Speakon connection which makes it super simple for connecting to the sub.

This connection method simply passes the identical music signal from the amp that the speakers are receiving. It does not interfere with the amp powering the JBL monitors. You can also use low level via RCA cables from your pre if you prefer that method.

High level speaker connections are the only way for 2 channel

Tapping into the pre outs always sounds off to me

It's Class H, not A/B. Class H are similar to all the other quasi-classes. Lots of correction circuitry to mimic A/B, but less weight, less power consumption, less need for large, expensive power supplies.

Cool. I just read a brief description and saw the 'guts' photos with the line of output transistors on each heat sink. I'm not familiar with class H.

According to Benchmark it is a class A/B amp with class H only coming into the picture at higher volumes when it switches over to it's higher power rails. All this techno stuff is above my pay grade.

I have my REL Carbons getting the high-level signal from the main speakers binding post and not going directly to the amp. Keeps the length short.

Yep that's another way to hook up the high- level signal. Excellent subs by the way!!
