@F1nut I agree, I should upgrade those stands a bit. They do have some rubber pads on the feet and on the tops where the speaker sits.

I think the next thing I would like to do with these is a really nice veneer. That dyed maple you showed me a while back would look crazy on these.

Nice work. Do yourself and your ears a favor and get rid of the sl2000 tweeters and get the RD0-194's. They are plug n play designed by Polk to "fix" the issues the sl2000 has.

@heiney9 I have a pair of RD0-194, but I just wanted to listen to the speakers as is with the original tweeters. I'll probably switch the tweeters out next week to hear the difference. For some reason the SL2000 doesn't seem as annoying in the SDAs as in the monitors.

@pitdogg2 with the 4.1tl mod what are the benefits? I've been told that to upgrade to the RD0198-1 is relatively easy as well.

It gives you the ability to use the RD-0198 tweeter. 5.8uf cap across the 2.7 ohm resistor and add a large faston on white ground wire to tweeter.

Just remember which ever RD0 you choose, give them ample break in time before forming an opinion.

The RD0-194 I have currently reside in a pair of monitor 5Bs I’ve been playing with.

BTW - Tweeters don’t break in. 😂😂 they sound exactly the same as when I first bought them.

The woofers on some of my other more expensive speaker did require some break in time but the Audax tweeter those came with sound exactly the same as the first day.

Check out these two threads which show how WMG and xschop approached the issue of backwave control in these. Also check out how WMG did his boards, not that yours aren't fine 😉

WMGs crossover above was the tl mod. You could use that as a template if you ever decided to go that route.

This has long been on my list of diy upgrades, now retired I think this has my name all over it. Any chance you have the source / part# for the parts, I would like to do the same mods, I blew out the woofer years ago and replaced them and updated the tweeter to SL3000 ?? I believe ... cant find the paperwork any longer. But did have the schematic update for the newer tweeter. ru8wsvz4c8oj.jpg

@mwk1001 When I zoomed in on your photo I didn't see any foam ring so it must be that you bought the RD0198-1 silk dome upgraded ones. Check and make sure you have RD0198 (5.39 Ohms) and not RD0194 (6.6 Ohms).

You already did most of the homework by grabbing the schematic. I think if you read that link above he said that he only did the low pass inductors for the midwoofers and he used Jantzens. you could find them maybe at partsconnexion.com. He used Sonicaps from soniccraft.com which are highly favored around here, for all the caps and Vishay/Mills 12 W resistors.

Oh, for the sub bass inductor he used Erse Super Q? For that you will have to look at Uscoils.us.
