Signature elite ES10 Bookshelf hpf settings

I have the es10 bookshelf speakers and an ES8 sub. They were connected to an Eversolo Play, which is a streaming amp, but the amp is underwhelming. I have to turn it 85% of maximum to get decent sound and that is in an apartment, where you can't go nuts with volume without risking a call to the landlord.

I got a fosi audio za3 and zd3 (amp and DAC) because I want to use USB audio from the Play to deliver data to the fosi DAC and then amp.
The za3 does not have an hpf option, so I'm getting a zp3 preamp that has switch controlled hpf (3 settings) and am wondering which would be better for the ES10, the 80HZ, or 120. 80 is very close to the max low end range of the speakers, and if I could pick a number I would probably do 95-100, but it's 80 or 120.

Any suggestions?

Could be what you are experiencing is that although the ES10 is the smallest of the Signature Elite speakers and the mid-woofer drivers are only 4 inches in diameter the speaker is not very efficient with an 84 dB rating. There has also been some online chatter about the Eversolo Play's volume control not producing expected sound levels.

The overall frequency response is down to 80Hz for the ES10 so I'd use that setting on the preamp switch as a starting point. Try that for a while and then compare how the system sounds with the switch in the 120Hz setting. Your room and setup may make a difference in how the speakers and subwoofer blend together so it's best to experiment with the setting.

Just takes a little time. You could also make adjustments on the ES8 subwoofer as it has controls of its own.

FWIW, I have a WiiM Vibelink amp and its volume control produces best sound at around the 80% of maximum range. It's just the nature of it being a digital amp. It used to be a bad idea to have an analog preamp's volume control at above around the halfway point but that's different technology.
