G-Shock Anyone?

So, while out on my hiatus and not having the ability to enjoy the music, I took up purchasing a few G-Shocks and modifying them. I really like the technology with some of these; Tough Solar & Multi Band 6 Atomic Time Keeping. Some even incorporate Bluetooth technology used for setting up the watch and maintaining accuracy. I'll upload a few pics of my work and let the images speak for themselves.

Nice, diverse looking collection. I'm sorta old fashioned when it comes to watches. All my current watches are fully mechanical, but I do appreciate the quartz models for accuracy and ease of use. I spend a couple minutes winding and adjusting my watches before each use.

Yeap! Another day, another hobby. 🙃

I'm a barbarian. I prefer classic Seiko automatic dive watches.

Good watches. I have a vintage Silverwave from 1981. More of a dress watch. G-Shocks are fun tho because you can mod them and they're tough as nails..This is my latest creation. A friend gave this to me. All white resin, but it was a little beat up. Ordered a new black bezel for it. I used a new band from another mod where I replaced it with a stainless steel bracelet. Added the purple bull bars for character and give it some pop. I think it came out pretty nice.
Before
After
The white dial face against the black bezel & strap contrast nicely. The bull bar almost matches the chapter markers. The model of this one is the GA-100. Not Tough Solar or Multiband 6, but the design is nice. The top center dial is used to calculate your speed/distance which is kind of a cool feature. Has all the other usual features. Stop watch, timer & 5 alarm settings. The OG strap is supposed to be double tang, but this single tang strap from a solar, GAS-100 I modded works just fine. Actually better than the original for me. The strap on there now is better quality. I think it's silicone. Softer and more pliable than the OG.

hang on...

That was harder than I expected it to be!
on the plus side, I added an extra forty-two steps.

Nice. My best G Shocks are the Rangeman & Mudmaster. Beast watches.

Thought this was gonna be an ode to Shock-G

Seriously touch watches, however my last succumbed to weld splatter. Their non G-Shock watches can take a hit too, just remove before welding ahem....
I've put this one through some trauma...

I got a Duro also. Not to be confused with Dorokusai.

I have a misbehaving mudmaster. Digital time, date and year correct. Other functions work. Hands stuck at 8:20. I can get into h set menu, second hand sweeps to 12 o'clock (00) but hour and minute hands wont move using buttons (mode at 0:00). Cannot get into sub menu either. I've tried the tweezer reset.
When I changed batteries last year, I didn't remove the mechanism and lay it face down on a cloth like that one video. No need to pull that out and subject hands to abuse.

Digital, analog, electric/electronic, and mechanical (self-winding and manual wind)?
That's weird. -

I got a Timex in my stocking for Christmas when I was a kid. I was always getting in trouble for being late for dinner because it would stop. I got a digital one with a digital readout (Casio?) when I was in college but the batteries would go dead in a few weeks. Sometimes they would last several months if I didn't wear it much. When I graduated from the Operating Engineers apprenticeship program I got a gold watch. It just sits on a shelf in my library. Sucks.Gustard X26 Pro DAC

A good modern automatic mechanical watch should be shielded from magnetic influence. I cannot see how that wouldn't work. You wind it or wear it every day. If you wear it and move around at least 5000 steps a day, it should stay running for at least 24 hours without winding and keep pretty good time.
I think you just gave up on watches with limited experience. Is that "gold watch" a quartz or mechanical winding watch? I'm sure early Timex watches were not of the best quality. Not waterproof/sweatproof. Kids are hard on watches. That probably isn't a good data point. We all had cheap watches that quit, but most of us have had no issues with good quality watches.

You could get a smart watch. Not really a watch more like a computer on your wrist but still.

I got a stripped down version of the MudMaster. No sensors for Temp, compass, altimeter/barometer, but has Tough Solar. No Multi Band 6 either, but that feature is useless to me anyway being out of range of the atomic transmitters. This one has the coolest backlights of any G Ive seen tho. Uses Blacklight technology and not only illuminates from the back, but also the digits. The model number is the GSG100 which kinda flies under the radar. One of my favorite Gs.
Hope you get the issue worked out with yours Rich. MudMaster is some of the best G-Shocks ever. I'm starting to stash some funds now to put a frog in my pond. The ultimate G-Shock hands down, and I got my sights set on owning one.

I just recently added these to my collection. Casio AE1500s. Not G-Shock but they definitely have their DNA. Modded these slightly to accept NATO straps and installed glass crystal protectors over the cheap acrylic. Some call this the poor man's 9500 Rangeman which isn't far off given their huge displays. Paid $22ea for these. Not Tough Solar, but they have a 10yr battery life. I'm expecting better since I don't use the alarms and rarely use the backlight. If ya got failing eyesight like me, these are practical. Just lose the cheap resin strap and install a NATO/ZULU. You'll thank me later. -

And while I was picking up the AE1500s, I decided to snag me an AQS820W ana-digi Tough Solar. Lost the resin strap on this one as well and installed a NATO. All of these watches are so light, you'll forget you have 'em on.
Also got this about a month ago. Casio DW290. This is the watch Tom Cruise wore in the first Mission Impossible movie. Got it used, dirt cheap. Cleaned it up a little. Bought some strap adapters for it and threw on this nice 007 Black & Red NATO.

audioluvr, that GA100 I refurbished, the white one and its cousin, the GA110 have electromagnetic shielding. These aren't very expensive Gs. Less than a Benjamin and IIRC have 5yr batteries. All kinds of color schemes on these. If you're interested, maybe check out one of those models. Might solve your issue. I think The Gift Stop has a few on sale right now. Solid etailer. Ive used them before. They have a decent return policy if it doesn't work out for ya.
