Let’s begin with a Shout-Out to Douglas Connection, a company catering to us audio nuts, with big and small wallets, that happens to be owned by a fellow forum member, @helipilotdoug.

He’s a one man show and makes custom speaker cables, interconnects, as well as carries a ton of options for those that would prefer to DIY their own items. His DIY section is quite robust with connectors, wires by the foot, and includes fully assembled DIY kits for those wanting to save the time of sourcing all the wire and connectors.

I myself am running his interconnects for my HT, all of my surrounds, my DIY subs run speaker wire from him, and I’ve got a ton of spare other stuff from the years.

Quality is top notch, customer service is great, and you are supporting a US Vet owned company. What’s not to love about that.

But enough about all that, let’s get to the PSA portion of the post, which relate to FUREZ.

While exchanging emails with Doug for a purchase of speaker wire I needed, I learned that Furez (the company whose speaker wire I use for my diy cables) has gone out of business.

Hearing that I snatched up the LAST of Doug’s inventory of Furez 14/4 (a 10 and 8 foot pair). I believe he still may have some limited lengths of 14/2 available so I’d highly recommend getting it now before it’s gone forever.

I’m a big fan of Furez speaker wire over that from Monoprice, Amazon Basics, and even Audioquests FLX wire (all of which I’ve previously run) as it’s better insulated, super flexible, CL2 (ie in-wall rated rated). Moreover I’ve not found a comparable wire for the price so I’m thankful I’ve got a bunch of spare lying
around.

How's Doug doing? Two years ago talking to Bill Dudleston of Legacy audio he was running different cables. He was a big believer in Doug's cables. In our conversation he said that Doug had some severe medical issues and he couldn't make cables for that years Axponia.

I bought a pair of Doug's cable for my CD player in my once bedroom rig. The quality is indeed top notch. Sorry to hear of his health issues. Pray that he recovers and continues on with his passion for creating quality audio cables. I was really impressed with his work.

I like DIY, and have made a few different purchases from Doug. He was always informative and gracious with 'discounts'.

As I recall, he was one of the last suppliers of Vampire Wire connectors. He knew quality.

Still using Doug’s Alpha speaker cables and IC’s with Furutech plugs. Very nice cables.

Doug is the best kind of people.

I wish I had more in my audio slush fund to spend with him than I do.

  • Hi everyone. Been awhile since I've been on here. Thanks for all the kind words. It's really appreciated.

Yes, we lost two hf our best manufacturers when Furez and Vampire Wire stopped production. I really liked the Vampire wire connectors. Most of them were really good, and we used several of their products for cables. Parts connection bought Vampire wire, and they were going to have more connectors made, but the last I heard still has not. Furez cable was excellent and at a cost effective price. I was sorry to lose both of them.

Thanks again for the kind words.
