McIntosh director of marketing called me yesterday and told me there is no warranty on it. Best Buy will need to assume it or provide one…

The way I look at this guys is it’s not really McIntosh’s problem. They warranty the original purchaser for three years parts and labor. McIntosh bought back from Magnolia all sealed box items that they can go ahead and send to other vendors. Open boxes is a different category and they consider all open box items as having been purchased by Magnolia. The unit I was looking to purchase had the outer seal cracked on the box, but the inner box still sealed and never removed. If Magnolia keeps the product for three years and does not resell it, McIntosh will continue to honor the warranty for them.

What I need to get in writing from Magnolia Best Buy is that should I have problems with the unit I can bring it to them and have it covered under warranty.

That said, Magnolia Best Buy has to this point unwilling to put that in writing so as of today, I told them they could keep their C 2800 and I would stick with what I have. Again, this is not the fault of McIntosh. Yes their policy sucks but all they are trying to do is protect their legitimate dealer network nothing more nothing less.

This is the fault of McIntosh, they are not the company they used to be, which is why they were being sold at Best buy.

Is a 3rd party “extended warranty” an option? When I purchased my new Marantz AVR (that only serves as a preamp/processor), I purchased a 3 yr extended warranty for $250. It covers full replacement if it is deemed unrepairable.

They won't sell for less than cost.

They would need to include it for free... My understanding is that Mcintosh considers Best Buy to be the original purchaser at this point and will warranty it for THEM but not to me if I were to purchase it. If they put something in writing that they would cover it, I would be writing a review for it here in the coming days. I am not going to spend a dime on this (nor should I be paying for a warranty) without a warranty I can rely on, especially given the issues Mcintosh and a dozen other companies have had with computerized audio gear.

When they bought it for cost it had a warranty.

Whenever I try this hard to make a deal on something stupendous it inevitably goes south and I end up regretting ít. As I've gotten older and learned from past "life experiences" I've learned that when I'm in a situation like this, no matter how good I think the deal is, in the end I'm not happy with the end results.
It just seems you're looking at minúte improvements AT best.

So I got a call yesterday. The warranty concerns I had have been resolved in my favor, so I went and picked up a very special C2800 that has never been out of the box. This one is brand new! Another thread will follow after I gave had a chance to absorb it all.
