Made an offer on this roadster

2005 Honda S2000,43k miles. Contingent on inspection and test drive. Anybody here have any experience with this car?

One of my kids made the comment “is this dad’s second or third mid-life crisis” whichever he totally supports it.

I had a boss at one point whose (quite adult) son had one. He, and she (i.e., my boss, also something of a gearhead who was, in those days, driving a pretty hot little AMG Mercedes convertible thingy) both loved it. That's all I've got, but perhaps a tad bit better than nothin'. :|

Holy cow a 20yr old car that still sells for 20k with 100k on the odometer? That's crazy, must have been a very low production vehicle.
It's a Honda what could go wrong with it?

Yes, a NXS this same year same mileage would sell for 5X what I offered for this.

My buddy has a yellow NSX less than 40k miles. He's had it for about 15 years. He's getting ready to sell it as he rarely drives it. It's been a good 401K for him......lol

On the Honda S2000. That's early V-tec technology. You have to rev the crap out of it to get it moving. Fun for awhile, but can get old after awhile to constantly have to wring it out to 6-7K rpm to get it moving.

IMO, a prefect weekend or occasional road trip car. Perhaps not the best daily. YMMV. My uncle had one for awhile. Moved to a 40th Anniversary Corvette.

Engine Horsepower: 240 at 7,800 rpm Engine Torque: 162 lb.-ft. at 6,500 rpm Transmission

That torque figure is not great for stop n go driving.....lol. It bet it's as fun as it can get at the track though. Or on back country roads. Supposed to handle extremely well. It's a drivers car and not very comfortable or a lot of creature comforts.

Your left leg and right arm are going to get a workout.

My '23 GTI (turbocharged) Power: 241 hp @ 6500 rpm
    Torque: 273 lb-ft @ 1750 rpm.

Much more driver friendly for "everyday". But hey, it won't rev as high or sounds as good or look as good....... :D

Not comparing cars (as they are intended for different uses. etc.), just throwing the numbers up for comparison. 18 years newer...lol.

Drive it for a while if you can and have fun, don't get a ticket.

I love the s2k but have you looked into a BRZ/FR-S/GT86/GR86? Would probably make more sense to get something newer.

Go for it! That interior is spectacular. Your kid has already given you permission.

I considered one about 8 years ago from the original owner of a white one that had less than 20k miles. I knew this man personally, and he was very enthusiastic about his car that he occasionally drove. I see a yellow one from time-to-time at the Publix where I shop about a mile from my house, and I still think I should have purchased the white one.

I wanted a convertible, again. I understand those 2nd childhood feelings and bold midlife crises.

Check for accidents, rust, modifications, and number of owners as usual. But, given it was only driven 2000 or so miles per year it could be a fun toy. If the price is right and if the engine and transmission didn't get thrashed. Looks like these go for around $30K these days depending on location and mileage.

The S2000 is very popular with Youtubers.

Here is the Honda S2000 AP1 I settled on. One owner, 2003, 32k original miles never driven in rain or snow. I had to shell out $31.5k, didn’t even blink.
