I saw the USAF Thunderbirds when I was a kid back in the day of the F100 jets, an event a kid would never forget.

Took the ride south primarily to see the Navy Blue Angels put on a helluva show. Earlier there was a solo demo with a lone F16 jet that also impressed me. While looking toward the center point for the next "event" one of the Navy jets did a low pass at about 500mph that caught many (me included) by surprise. To see the jet pass us followed by the thunder those F18s produce put a smile on my face. Plenty of other acrobatic flying too. I'm always in awe of what these pilots do.

If you get a chance to see the Angels or Thunderbirds in person, go! You won't be disappointed. Also, there is a good documentary on Netflix about the Thunderbirds.

Great documentary on the Blues too... The demo team featured in the Thunderbird documentary was the 2023 team we saw at Pt. Mugu a couple years back, and in the Blue Angels doc, the woman selected to fly the #3 jet... her mom and my mom worked together back in the day!

I remember the F100 Sabre jets too.

I go all the time for the Blue Angels at their base in Pensacola, and I have gone to many shows within driving distances of Marietta in the past. The practice shows at the Pensacola Naval Air station would have 5-10 people standing on the flight line; now their are bleachers with huge crowds.

Crowds at all the shows have grown so large that it's difficult to reach a show in a reasonable time frame.

I read an article that mentioned the F15 solo flight being an aggressive showing of the pilot and plane. The article said the plane was at 700 MPH in level flight over the runway which seem too fast.

My Dad was a ground crew person for the B29 many years ago before becoming a small arms instructor. I still have the model airplanes I put together of the B29 and the Mustang.

I also have the SR71 Blackbird before they banned them on the market for being too detailed. That was a sight to see years ago at Beale AFB.

I found pictures of my sister and I back in 1976, looking out the starboard bubble window of Fifi… the B-29 of the CAF.

I just read this and can see all sorts of problems:

Venus Aerospace completed the world's first atmospheric test of a rotating detonation rocket engine (RDRE), a breakthrough propulsion system that uses spinning explosions instead of steady combustion to generate thrust.

They say their airplane with this engine will cruise at 110k feet and reach Mach4...not with me onboard!
