    yep will work on reflow the solder join to improve connectivity as well. For now the mystery seems solved. Thanks.

    @pitdogg2 I did remove the board when I did the original soldering, and where it seems to touch capacitor under wire the red coating is still there. I don't understand why separating them solved the issue if the red enamel coating is supposed to insulate it. But it's been working for the last few hours without reflow solder so far. This seems really strange then.

    I actually did the original capacitor & resistor upgrade back in 2011 and this problem came up soon afterward. I had put the speakers aside since then and I decided to revisit the issue in the last few weeks (which I also replaced one of the tweeter's blown coil with a replacement silk dome/coil). Come to think of it, I'm wondering if this issue had caused the blown tweeter coil or not. But I'm glad it's working now after left it alone for the past 13 years or so. :D
