I am eyeing a job there and moving from Atlanta up there would be a slight change lol. I grew up in Illinois so I get the cold and snow thing, but curious as to the lifestyle, cost of living, outdoors, people side of it. I would be near the Iron Mountain area. Anyone gots any input?

I haven't lived there, but that was our vacation spot growing up in Southeastern Michigan. Things are pretty strange in the UP. Much of it is very remote and people up there are tough, outdoorsy, independent types. The snow up there is no joke. 200" in a winter is common in some areas. Iron Mountain is right on the Wisconsin border, so it might have a more of a Cheezehead mentality. I know prices at stores are higher in the areas of the UP that I have visited, but those were in small town areas close to Lake Superior. Not sure about Iron Mountain area, but the Yoopers love a food called Pasties. They are like empanadas, but without the Latin flavors. Make sure to call them PAA-stees, not PAY-stees. Good luck if you do make the move.

Yep, some areas, especially in the Keweenaw Peninsula.

We got 160" 100 miles below the UP, in northern Michigan. 120" is average.

To the OP, my family has about 2000 acres up there. A former logging camp that sleeps 30 people! But the water is always freezing, even on a 90 degree day, the mosquitos are horrible. Our place is down a 30 mile dirt road, the drive way is almost a mile. Nearest "town" is 40 miles away. I loved going up there to ride dirt bikes, or snowmobiles when I was a kid, but I haven't gone up there in almost 20 years now.
There is nothing in most of the UP. Can get boring if you don't hunt, or like to go to Casinos.
