My soundbar has optical port only, New Samsung TV with HDMI eARC and no optical port.
How can I connect these two?
Also, my subwoofer has been out of commission for years....I am OK if you tell me to get another soundbar and system.

Since your Polk DSB1 soundbar only has an optical port, but your Samsung TV only has HDMI eARC and no optical port, you have a couple of options:
Option 1: Use an HDMI eARC to Optical Audio Converter (Recommended)
Since your TV doesn’t have an optical port, you can use an HDMI eARC to Optical Audio Converter to bridge the connection.
This device takes the HDMI eARC output from your TV and converts it to an optical signal that your Polk soundbar can use.
Example converters:
eARC/ARC to Optical Audio Adapter
HDMI Audio Extractor with Optical Out
Pros: Keeps your existing soundbar, cost-effective.
Cons: May introduce minor audio lag, requires an extra device.
Option 2: Upgrade to a New Soundbar (Easiest)
Since your subwoofer is already out of commission, and you're using workarounds for control, this might be the best long-term solution. Here’s what to consider:
Look for a soundbar with HDMI eARC/ARC support for direct compatibility.
A soundbar with a wireless subwoofer will improve bass performance.
Recommended brands: Polk, Samsung, Sonos, Bose, LG, Vizio.
