Monitor 10B Dissection

Well, this is interesting. Bought a pair of 10B's several year's ago. They came with RDO-194's. Bonus! They never sounded quite right to me. These were in rotation in my shop, so I never bothered to tear them apart. Other speakers, etc. I owed a new pair back in the late 80's, so I'm pretty familiar with them.

Well, tonight I decided to yank them apart with the intention of putting SL-2000s back in before selling. Thanks @skipshot12!

Lo and behold, every driver has two gaskets. One factory, and one the previous owner made themselves. Second gaskets are obviously hand cut.
These always has poor bass. But the passive push test, while not great, seemed ok. Also, the polyfill seems wrong. Some pics. Comments?

No poly behind the radiator, yes? Never pulled the pair from years ago apart. Mid woofers are the correct 6503's.

The poly behind the tweeters is separate from the piece behind the MW's and passive. I'm thinking someone added the piece behind the passive.

Get rid of the extra polyfill and those hack gaskets.

Yep. You can add a few staples to keep the polyfill in place.

So I have never had a monitor 10 here to play around with... but I cant help but think they would sound better on their side with the tweeters towards the inner part of the stage and the PR to the outside? Anyone ever try this?
