Powder coat or not?

Looking at installing railing on our deck. A contractor told me to stay away from powder coated aluminum. He said the finish will fade in a year or so and shortly after that I will see some peeling of the finish. I learned he did powder coating several years ago and wonder if he is speaking from past experience and maybe not up on newer powder coating methods?

I think the answer to that is solely dependent on how it is applied- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

If you’ve ever had, or know someone who has, powder coated aluminum patio furniture, it does fade. Maybe not the first year, but eventually.

Everything sun fades in time, some colors faster than others, my hand rails lasted about 15 years. Last year I took them down, had them bead blasted, and re-powder coated,
The key is prep work, and use Super Durable Powder Coat.
Even the aluminum, have them soft blasted before powder.
It should give you many years of enjoyment.. -
Does this sound like a legit quality application or is it markety hype?

I have Trex decking and the hand rail is the same stuff. Looks great after 27 years. I just pressure wash it once every 10 years or so.Gustard X26 Pro DAC

Trex is amazing stuff. I built a crawl space door out of it 15 years ago and it quite literally looks the same except maybe a little lighter- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

The "plastic" decking has come a long ways in the last few years. We have TimbeTech on our front deck and looking to do the back deck with the same. This stuff does get hot in direct summer sun, but an outdoor carpet fixes that. Gonna have to do some work though as the back deck is 16" OC and I'm told go 12" OC to keep a firm feel to the deck under foot.Yep, my name really is Bob.

I have it on my front porch which is 16 oc and I have had substantial weight up there with zero issues or concerns.
My front porch is covered though- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Good to know. I think I'll just lay a few boards down and test them before doing any joist mods.Yep, my name really is Bob.

Similar experience here. I asked a professional remodeler friend before building new front entry steps. He said 16 OC is okay, but some brands recommend 12. 16 was fine.
