Name that Polkie

I was cleaning out some items on a shelf in my closet and I found this picture. It was taken at Polkfest 2007 at Ted's (Reeltrouble) place in GA. I only had a print of this picture so it's not the greatest. Maybe someone in the picture has a digital copy. If so, please PM me.

I placed a blue arrow towards myself in this photo. There are many Polkies in the photo who are still very active on the Forum. A few of the Polkies, our host Ted is one, who are with us only in memory. Rest in piece Ted

18 years tends to do that to folks.

Here is a Trivia Question - There is one female in the photo. Can any of you say what her name is, and why she was there?

Oh, chit. Maybe I was wrong on the name. I thought it was Jennifer, but I believe you may be correct.

While that may be true about Sal, that isn't the correct answer.

Monica sounds right to me. She might have been in the marketing department.

That is Monica Robles and she was hired by Al Ballard as part of the marketing department. I'm not a 100% sure, but the guy with the shades might be Mark Suskind, product development.

Mark was definitely there in person 😁😁😁

Let's see who I can remember

    Back row, left to right:
Dunno, hoosier21, hearingimpaired, reeltrouble, millerlitescott (I think?), Dunno, hard to see

    Next row down
    Trey/Sid/VR3, trietz3 (I think), Laserath, disneyjoe, Monica

    Next row down
shack, schwarcw, dunno, ohskigod, Suskind in the classes, Tour2Ma (maybe?), F1nut

Bottom 3 I don't recognize at all. I thought one was TroyD but I think he was deployed for this one so unlikely.

But the picture is kinda fuzzy for me so it's hard to make out everyone, especially when the 3 bald guys all look the same.

So that's everyone I recognize, tell me if I'm wrong. Many of them aren't hanging around anymore either.

So, if any of you old farts forgot, there was a huge 20 page thread for that event.

I was trying to remember what/where/why I didn't go. Then I remembered I was trying my best to stay sane at the time while raising an 11-month old boy, who was, as they say, a "spirited" child. Now, his is a spirited adult about to head off to college. Man, time flies.

John got most of them, names that I didn't remember. Janmike was the guy sitting behind me. Ted's brother (starchaser) and his son(s) were there in the front row.

George Daniel attended but was not in the photo.

    Good times!

Oh, in that case...let me spill the beans. That man got SO lit one night, he had his arms fully extended, explaining while slurring and sometimes falling sideways or backwards, hiccuping in between words, that proper toe in should actually be toe out. He preached about this for some time.

Most of us in the room were in stitches. Damn, that was funny! Thing is, is he was 100% dead serious about it too!

    Good times, indeed!

He is a fan of Mr. Beam.

He and a few others were well into a bottle at one of my Polkfests with someone, I can't remember who it was. Might have been a couple of my neighbors. He was ragging on my office rig because they couldn't figure out how the phono pre-amp was hooked up. I had it set up to run through optical output on my PC because I used it to rip vinyl to digital media for my dad. I also used it to play lossless digital stuff straight from the computer. They thought it sounded like garbage because I had a 3.5mm stereo cable hooked up to the AUX input for people to play with.

So I fired up the PC and told them to sit on the cedar chest in front of my desk and played a FLAC file I made of a Grade A copy of "Toulouse Street" by the Doobie Brothers. It captured every artifact of the vinyl in exquisite detail and he was actually wowed by it. Stupid Peachtree Nova and a pair of Totem Rainmakers, they just meshed well, I got lucky with it. He started asking me about it between sips of Beam and then he started staring over my shoulder and not really listening. I said I was sorry, i was rambling and he says "Excuse me, I'm sorry, I just...distracted...what the hell is that?" and pointed to a picture I had on one of the shelves.

I looked over my shoulder and saw it and said "Oh, that, that's just a Block IIA SM-3 leaving the chute of a Mark 41 VLS on the USS Lake Erie. Pretty cool looking, ain't it?" He asks me how the hell did I acquire it. I said "Acquire it? I took that picture!" Then he went looking at it super close and said "Wait...who signed it?" I told him it was the commanding officer of the USS Lake Erie and the General in charge of the BMD programs for the Missile Defense Agency. A copy of that picture was given to everyone who was on the Lake Erie for that event as a "souvenir" and token of appreciation as it was the first ever ballistic missile intercept. They had to "declassify" it to do it which is why it's "over-exposed".

I knew he thought I was a hyper, chucklehead kid up until that point. His only response to that story was "Holy sh**"

Then he went downstairs to the theater room and started mucking around with speaker placement and hooking Phil's 600 watt Class D's up to every speaker he could.

Suskind's a trip! George Grand always got a kick out of him too.

Mark has a few audio components that are especially important to him. One is a Revox A77 and the other is a Thorens TD125 with a DKL modified Rabco SL8E tonearm. The Revox was on a shelf not fastened to its brackets. One day while his wife was cleaning she lifted a component off of the opposite end of the shelf and like a kid getting off a seesaw the Revox tumbled to the floor. Fortunately I was able to repair the damaged unit, putting parts from a second A77 to the mend.
Mark was the motivation for a number of classic Polk designs, especially the RT5000p system, the PSW1200 subwoofer and the MOMO 12 Volt products. He has a genuine love of classical music (especially when conducted by Toscanni) and truly wanted to bring listeners great music at reasonable prices. He was the first customer service department and set the mark (pun intended) for those who followed.
