How much does the grill effect the sound on sda 2A speakers?

I have to put new fabric on my grills, so I been running my 2A speakers without grills and wanted to know what effect it has on the sound.

    The original is pretty thick. This is a very nice product.

    The main issue with the grills is the super thick frame versus the cloth

    I have changed the grill cloth a few years ago to fabric from meniscus audio, which was a lot thinner, but the fabric came loose from the grills. I haven't used them in my dedicated room with the grills on, since the fabric came loose and is not reusable, so the last time I used the speakers with the grills was in my living room. They sound pretty good but the center image isn't as good as I remember.

    I just replaced my Polk SDA-SRS2s grills with Simply Speakers pure black cloth and was very pleased with the quality and sheen to it.
    It's on sale now...It's 22.00 for the 60"x36". Get their tube/s of glue too. It's great glue! 8.00 a tube. It goes a long way when used as the directions suggest..

    I'm sure the Parts Express grill cloth is great too.

    When I had modded 2A's I always thought they sounded more "rounded", for lack of a better word, with the grills on. They were still listenable, however, unlike my R600's...
