Well, I have been a member here for almost a year. I have been lurking a bit, but I never really posted because my system was sub-par. But, now that i have upgraded I can see why everyone loves this HT! I mean the diffrence is amazing just from getting a new receiver. I also just bought a new (to me) polk center, and rear ch speakers to match my polk RTi 100's. below is what i have:

Hitachi 51" widescreen HD TV
Onkyo 602 7.1ch Receiver
Polk RTi 100 floorstanding speakers
Polk RTi 15 rear surrounds
Polk Cs225 center
dare I say.. a KLH sub. :o

the rear speakers are commng in shortly and same with the center.

I can't wait to hear the new step, and I am just looking for a nice long list of amazing/superb/outstanding/mindblowing movies to watch/listen to. please post ALL of your best titles to i can go on a renting/buying spree! :)

thanks, and sorry about the long post!

-Chris

His list is solid, but he left out "Saving Private Ryan"

    The beach landing is priceless!

I agree on U-571. The depth charge scenes are it!!!

    Great list though.

Yes they do. They just utilize the entire disk for video & sound. But you won't have any extras. I don't usually watch them anyway so I'm glad to have the extra resolution.

you'll be hearing some really good sound.. from those DTS movie soundtracks. Have fun.

Well, 21 yrs old or not.. you seem to be on the right track for a killer system Chris.
One very important thing is to properly set up the level for each of your speakers. This is done with a sound pressure level meter (SPL). They can easily be found at Radio Shack. They run about $40 and will help you accurately set up the proper volume for each speaker. It's much more accurate than trying to do it by ear.

keep an eye out here for some killer deals on used gear in here. Maybe a sub will pop up that you might be interested in. You can do a search here for subwoofers.. and read up on that if you want.

Who needs schooling?.. when you got DTS movies to watch. :p
    ha ha ha. JK

    have fun man.

Thanks for the kind words. :)

as far as the spl meter, I read many people are doing it. But, on my system, it comes with a MIC that plugs into the front of the receiver that listens to the speakers, and can tell how low/loud each speaker needs to be depending on the sitting location.

when i did the above, i hated the way it sounded, and i changed all the setting back. I wish i could hire some of you guys out to my house to set this monster up. lol. :) I can do fine with car stereo's, and fabication, working on computers and cars, but when it comes to this, it is like hitting a brick wall. :(

Is the mike going to be in the seat your sitting in?

If it isn't, you need to calibrate from that position...

I wanted to put my $.02 in for Lord of the Rings and U-571. They are awesome. The army marching in LOTR (can't remember which one, the second one I think) sounds like they are coming through the house. Just watch U-571 again this weekend. I hadn't seen it in quite a while and I saw it at Best Buy for $10. I don't know about the rest of you guys buy I couldn't hardly listen to it at reference levels. Too loud.

Isn't Independence Day in DTS guys? When the guy shoots at the coke can and the bullet recochets (?) around the room sounds really cool.

You also need to get the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" and listen to it in dts. Especially the last sound that is audio only. This whole disc is a superb recording.
    Front: RTi70
    Center: CSi40
    Rear: RTi28
    Sub: PSW505

The Superbit edition of The Patriot also has a DTS track. Excellent sound on this one as well, from echoing trumpets in John Williams' score to the distant booming of cannons, the subtle effects are caught very well. Not to mention the louder battle sequences. Can't think of anything not previously mentioned. Lots of good recommendations there.
    Current System:

Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Concert Grand (Rosewood)-Mains (with Audioquest Mont Blanc cables)

    FXi3-surrounds (for sale**)
    Martin Logan Depth-Sub
    B&K AVR 507
    Pimare CD21-CD Player
