I have a denon 2803 and was told I need an amp to push the LSIs I'm going to buy. I have the LSI15s and am thinking about getting a LSIC, either LSIFXs or LSI7s for surround, and am trying to figure out which sub to get and what kind of amp to buy.

Thanks

Not trying to be a wise-****, but use the search button in the upper left corner below POLK. Do a search for amps and you'll be provided quite an extensive list of threads to look at.

$600 for sub and $600 for amp, or $600 altogether?

Also, are you open to used gear?

$600 each, but mainly i just want to make sure i get a good quality match to go with my other equipment. I'm flexible when it comes to budget. And I've never bought any used equipment so I don't know how much confiedence I have in buying something used. But am very open to suggestions, whether to go used or new. And I've never bought a HT amp, so I don't know how much u need to spend to buy a good one.

    thanks

I'm just lost when it comes to this stuff. And I really appreciate all the advice I have received already in the short time that I've been visiting this great site. I thought i new a little about audio, but when i found this site i realized i don't know anything. What would you suggest I do if I wanted to know everything there is to know about the audio world, outside of researching this site.

Club Polk is all about sharing views, experiences, opinions... some are further along the "curve" than others, but we are all learning...

Certainly, CP is one of the more down to earth Forums I've visited, but there are others that aren't all that daunting. Some center on other brands, some on HT, some on vintage gear... all depends on what info you want to pursue.

Library is an oft overlooked source... there are some worthwhile books.

Plenty of web-site hits for searches on any specific topic... here's a good, general reference...

Got your budget set now, but you did not answer the question about used equipment... Would you consider used gear?

Nice to see that Frank and I recommend the same site... and Russ may come into play... wouldn't bet against it.

    OK, used gear... Great...

I'm assuming you are presently running a single pair of speaker wires to your 15's with the brass jumpers in place. Also assuming that you have your LFE routed to the Mains... yes?

Anyway, first you can play with your set up some and get a taste that will yield some direction.

While your 2803 is wired internally to get a signal to each of its 7 amp channels, I think a given channels "pre-out" can be used without interrupting the internal signal. We will need to verify this at some point. But if it's as I think it is, this opens up all kinds of flexibility.

Two of your 2803's channels are assignable to a 2nd zone. Do this with them getting the "Mains" signal. Zone 2 has independant volume control, a pain, but for playing it'll work...

Most Polk speakers with dual binding post pairs have the top pair feeding the tweeters and the bottom the mid-woofers (MW's). Your 15's are a little unusual in that they have a subwoofer... of sorts.... that handles frequencies below 150 Hz. So the 15's bottom posts feed the "sub", and the top pair the MW's and tweeters.

With the 2803's LFE routed to the Mains, wire the Mains to the 15's sub. Then make a second wire run from Zone 2 to the 15's MW's/ tweeters. REMOVE the brass jumpers before connecting the speaker wires...

With the above done, you haven't quite doubled the power to your mains (AVR's are normally more powerful in 2 ch operation than when additional ch's are in play), but you should be a good 50% stronger... 180 wpc vs 120...

See what you think, particularly of the bass. It'll tell you how much of a sub you'll want, and if 200 wpc or so for the front stage is in the ball park...

    Later...
    More later,
    Tour...
