They used a crane to lift the beam, posts, and portable jack up and over the house!

Posts anchored to footing, now being welded to the beam:
Next step is to secure the joists and existing house structure to the beam, before the wall underneath can be removed.

Might have missed it, does the crawlspace have a poured floor? Do the footers have drain tile leading to the sump? If so, I'd treat it like any other basement space in your geographic location Other than a lesser volume than a typical basement of the same square footage, I don't see a difference. Run a dehumidifier with it set to a max of 50% RH and I think you'll be fine.

Yep - Poured floor, with a sump field all around. Some updates.
Framing around my ugly beam complete! The wall underneath will be removed and opened up to the rest of the house. No post required. Also the existing window on the left will be removed and converted to a walk through to the living room.
Windows have been delivered after a 6 week delay. Waiting now for some concrete work (below) and grade leveling around the addition before they can be safely installed.
Retaining walls and entry ramp for the crawlspace under construction. Footers done with rebar tie in to the walls, wall forms being setup this week. Tiebacks to be added to both walls for added stability.

Good question Tom. The crawlspace is big enough to fit my riding mower, so I needed a ramp to get down there!
We plan to put a deck in the back there too.
