Home brew with a bunch of car audio drivers? The "mids" definitely look like full range car speakers.

These are not home brew... I think something quite rare and very high end for the late 80's or early 90's.

I don't know what they are... the remind me of the VMPS monstrosities of... not all that long ago. They're not VMPSs though.

The drivers aren't car drivers -- but they're not familiar.
There have been some pretty fine elliptical drivers (typically, but not always, woofers) over the years: KEF and EMI both had noteworthy models, e.g.
And even some of the "car" elliptical drivers were actually pretty good drivers if used with grace and tact.

He wants $1200 and the ad is still up. Of course, there's no way you can listen to those in his living room, but judging by what else is in the pic, he appears to have a speaker affliction...Hales System Two Signatures / Bryston 7B STs / McCormack RLD-1 / Innersound Phono / Bluesound Node 130 /Oppo BDP-105D / Technics SP-15 w/SAEC WE-308SX & Ortofon AS-309 arms / Audio-Technica ART-1 & Dynavector XX2 Mk II carts

Eyebolts (small ones) in the top suggest that they were suspended by cables at one point. https://denver.craigslist.org/bfs/d/longmont-big-master-speakers-collection/7435461506.htmlGeorge / NJ
