Paul DiComo

For longtime Club Polk members this will come as very sad news. One of the original cornerstones of Polk Audio, Paul DiComo, has passed. He was a great person and will be missed by his friends and family.

    Oh, man, that sucks! :(

For those of you not around then, if it wasn't for Polk Paul DiComo, there'd be no Club Polk or The Speaker Specialist or any other customer focused program at Polk Audio. Paul was everybody's friend and sincerely too. He loved the Polk owner community and even when he didn't have time to participate, he still read the forums and sometimes you'd get lucky enough to get a private message from Polk Paul.

He even set up a car audio demo for the car audio guys at the first Polkfest in Baltimore. He made sure he got those of us from the Car Audio side of the forum together in one group and then took us for a tour of the install shop/lab with Josh. We even got to see a show car that they were working on but had under wraps because it was showcasing what was then the Polk/MOMO partnership that hadn't been announced yet. He was happier than a kid in a candy shop to show us all of it!

Polk Paul DiComo had a pretty big impact on my audio journey and my life in general.

He was a genuine good guy.

Talk about bringing down my day. :(

I'm shocked....way too young. I last saw Paul at CAF, we had a great talk and a bunch of seriously good laughs. Just one of the best....

I am just beside myself learning about this after returning from a service for another friend that passed.

As has been said, much of what we knew Polk Audio to be could be attributed to Paul. He was a HILARIOUS guy and a great story teller....and generous to a fault. I’m sitting here looking at the Polk SRT poster he had signed and framed for me for hosting the PolkFests. Over the years, we traded lively email discussions as we were polar opposites on many issues but at the end of the day, we never let that interfere with our mutual respect and friendship.

    I will miss my friend.

I think that we will dedicate the proceeds of the raffle at PolkFest to both the Githens Center and a benefit in Paul's name. I've reached out to Al to see what organization he'd think Paul would have liked.

This was written by his wife Susan and posted to his FB page...

Paul DiComo, longtime Polk Audio and Definitive Technology sales and marketing manager, lost his battle with cancer and died peacefully with his wife Susan Putnam by his side on Friday, September 10, 2021.
Paul was born on January 24, 1951, to Charles and Lillian DiComo in Newark, New Jersey.
After college at Rutgers, Newark, he moved to Boston, cutting his audio and sales chops first at Waltham Camera and Stereo, then at Tweeter Etc, managing both the Chestnut Hill and Harvard Square locations.
In 1981, Paul joined the fledgling electronics group NAD as National Sales Manager. Two years later, he accepted the role of National Sales Manager at Polk, and in 1995 used his writing and industry relations skills as Marketing and Public Relations Manager. In both of these roles, Paul was an important figure in the growth of Polk Audio from a small regional company to one of the largest of its type in the global market. Paul was recruited to Definitive Technology in 2007 as Senior Vice President of Marketing and New Product Development, a role he held until late 2013.
From January 2014 on, Paul, with partner Al Ballard, founded CE-Marketing Pros, LLC., a marketing agency helping established and start-up Consumer Electronics brands build market share and consumer awareness.
Paul was well known throughout the consumer electronics industry for his keen intellect, his passion for his work, but most of all for his larger-than-life personality and love of life. His laughter was infectious and his outgoing personality made him a natural fit for his many roles in the industry. As he travelled the US and the world, Paul gained the respect of many, and would freely share his love and passion for music and fine audio products.
He is survived by his beloved wife and life partner, Susan Putnam, and their sons Michael and Gregory as well as two grandchildren.
A memorial in Paul’s honor will be held at the Candle Light funeral home in Catonsville, Maryland on Saturday, September 25th.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to MMRF (Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation) would be appreciated. https://www.themmrf.org)

Contributions to the MMRF will be made from the proceeds collected for the raffle at PolkFest

Very sad news. Had a chance to meet him at an HQ Polkfest and he was a genuinely nice guy and audio nerd. RIP

This is indeed terrible to hear. I was recently (late this summer) thinking of sir Polk Paul when clearing out my parent’s attic and came upon a couple of issues of the speaker specialist.
