Series 2 Monitor usage

Would like to know if this bookshelf speaker from the 80's has some users currently. I have a pair (had 2 pairs once) that I used in ceiling corners as Presence speakers. Tried them out as bookshelf speakers on my enclosed porch using a Bluesound PowerNode and I was pleasantly surprised. Had not listened to them in many years, never in stereo mode.

There was more than one model in the Monitor Series 2.

  • Just like Paradigms I guess. (Is it V1,2,3 or 4). I think this is an RM3. Anyway, as I said, I never listened to them in stereo till now and I like the sound on my covered porch. I have a pair of B&W AM1's on order. Outdoor speakers. Thinking of sending them back and using the Polks. Or keeping the B&W's and using the Polks in a surround sound setup.

They look like this (these are not mine)

No idea what those are. Definitely not the Monitor 2 series I know of.

Those look to me like the RM3000 Series 2 Satellite Speakers. They were usually sold with the subwoofer. Like these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224530492490?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5338381866&toolid=10001&customid=e90fcfe6-0c47-11ec-c041-613034343134

They are the M-Series. I'm guessing the M3 or M3ii. I have a pair sitting around that someone gave me. I've been thinking about using them in my shop or garage.

I used to have a pair of those, in white. They were decent sounding speakers, pretty much made for surround or garage/patio applications.

I like my original series Monitor 7B's with Peerless tweeters.

I also have a pair of Monitor 7 Series II with the SL-2500 tweeters.

Has anyone replaced the SL-2500's in their 7's with the RD0-198's?

If so, how did they compare with the Peerless 7B's?

If been wanting to do this switch for some time.

Along with a thousand other audio hobby things. :)

Just make the switch to RD-0198 it's a great tweeter, you will not be disappointed.
  • One of my speakers has RM3 printed on the label. They are great speakers. Interesting that Polk called them 'Architectural' (perhaps that is standard lingo, I don't know). I just got a pair of B&W Architectural Monitors. They have a good bit more base but, and this is just based on a limited by memory comparison, I think the Polks are nearly as good.
It's new Polk weekend, my R700's just arrived! :p
  • Is that something I can do (switching the tweeter), I don't have any skills unless it is just replacing and twisting wire. I upgraded the tweeters on my SDA2 but I had a speaker repair guy do that since he did some other work too?

He was talking to the guy above him with the Monitor 7s. There's nothing worth upgrading with those satellites.

Wow the RM3 was my first Polk audio speakers as a teenager. I was using them with a Sony modular system like this one.
