Maybe a new CD player

Thinking of upgrading my 34 year old denon CD player. It’s still working fine! Budget is under $500. I don’t want a divorce, of course that still may cause one lol 😂 looking at marantz 6006, or Denon Dcd 800 Nc. I’m boring, I will never have SACD’s. Nothing against them, I just would rather stay married . Input, opinions, and insults are all welcome!

Which Denon CD player? Some of the old ladder dacs can run circles around the 1 bit pulse dacs. If you were to replace the electrolytic caps and increase the capacitance around the ladder dac you would be amazed at the outcome.

I bought a Marantz 6006 here on CP for way less than your max budget, over a hundie less in fact. Nice player!

It is a DCD 1100. Like I said I bought it in 1986. I don’t know much about capacitors or that type of thing but I would be interested in learning

It's not new but there's an Oppo 103D for sale in the marketplace for less than your 500 dollar threshold.

That Oppo is going to be tough to beat for the price...not only from a construction quality perspective but also a sound quality perspective.

I do not find Oppo players very musical sounding. The Marantz players are better.

For everything the OPPO does it’s hard to beat, but since your looking for something to just play CD’s my vote would be be for the Marantz, one of the ones posted above is within your budget...

^^ can't beat that for the price. I have been using a CD6005 for about 4 years now, just don't have any desire to upgrade.
2 channel: Anthem 225 Integrated amp; Parasound Ztuner; TechnicsTT SL1350; Vincent PHO-8 phono pre; Marantz CD6005 spinner; Polk SDA2BTL's; LAT International speaker cables, ZU Mission IC's and power cables all into a PS Audio Dectet Power center.

Other; S60'S, M10 series II, M7C's, Hafler XL600 amp, RB-980BX, Parasound HCA-1500 amp , P5 preamp, all in storage. All vintage Polk have had crossover rebuilds and tweeter upgrades.
