Outdoor speakers - speaker-wire tips

Polkies...
I have some outdoor speakers, but due to the outdoor elements it is making the speaker wire tips very brittle. Is there something that I can do to the bare wire tips to make them more outdoor resistant?

Gold plated crimp tubes and banana plugs. Heat shrink tubing between crimp tube and speaker wire.
