    John,
You can never resist an opportunity to take a shot at someone. Thanks for you pointing out the obvious......that the remark was intended just for people like you. You have an uncanny knack of proving a lot of people right around here. Have a great day sport.

Under the new rules announced late on Saturday, sport and physical activity outside, even individually, is banned. Using vending machines is forbidden.

The move comes as Italy reported nearly 800 coronavirus deaths on Saturday and saw its toll for the past month reach 4,825, the highest in the world.

So this is day 7 or so since the advice to stay at home if possible was announced.
    Another week to go.

Then we'll see just how widespread this COVID19 strain has become AND we'll have a lot more test results from around the world. I know the top says we might need another week or two of self quarantining and limiting our public exposure after that...MAYBE.

I'm happy to say my wife did a TP roll count yesterday and we have around 37 rolls left from a 48pack she bought from Sam's club a while back. :) we're good for a month at least. B)

Desperate times call for desperate measures. The happy go lucky Italians need to bite the quarantine bullet or the army might make them bite the real ones.

I think the POTUS calling the virus a Chinese virus does nothing but deflect from the US not being nearly prepared enough for an outbreak which was reported to the WHO on December 30, not to mention squash any hopes of cooperation between China and the US in containing the virus and sharing solutions. Also, this also digs us a bigger hole which is the trade war which will only deepen the recession we are headed into. Just another view of how to view what is going on....everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

    A few points to consider.

    1. If you assert that using the terms China virus or Wuhan virus is racist or malicious in some way, you're going to need to show your work there. Are the terms Ebola, Zika, Marburg, Lassa, Lyme, MERS, etc all racist/malicious too? This is NOT a new thing, naming virus strains after their place of origin.

    2. You are correct, the US was not prepared for this virus. But I ask you - who was? Seriously, what nation was prepared for this? People like you say "The President didn't have a plan, and was not prepared for this crisis". Ok, let's dust of the prior administration's global pandemic plan, and use that - Oh wait, that plan allowed seventeen thousand (17,000) people to die. Further, If our current administration had been spending billions two years ago building ventilators, manufacturing masks to store in a warehouse, people like you would have ridiculed them non-stop for reckless spending. By your logic, we should be spending billions (trillions?) to build underground cities, so we can survive when an asteroid collides with Earth and makes living on the surface impossible. That way, we will be "prepared" for that future crisis, right?

    3. You seriously want to get in bed with China?? China has been a flat-out criminal actor in this whole thing. Partner with them? Please... They knew about this at least a month before the rest of the world was informed. They suppressed individuals who tried to warn the world. They tried to shift blame to the US for the virus. They falsified data. Spare me your platitudes for China. And where are the animal rights activists speaking out on the Chinese Wet-Markets? Do you know why they have wet-markets where Chinese citizens buy, sell and consume rodents, civets, bats, etc? Because the Chinese government is a garbage government. One more piece of evidence that socialism does not work.

    4. The trade war with China is necessary, and this whole incident proves it. We have sold far to much of our country's soul to China in the name of cheap tvs, drugs, toys, clothes, etc. Its going to be painful to ween ourselves off Chinese crap, but it needs to be done, and this administration is the first to EVER stand up to China. Yea, its going to hurt - but it is of the utmost importance.

As you said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion...

I keep seeing comments about "2 week quarantine". You guys do realize this thing isn't over in two weeks, right? Some people still aren't isolating or taking this seriously. There are going to be waves of infection. The isolating is just to help slow the spread.

The 2 week scenario was put in place to condition us from the shock that a 3 or 4 month quarantine would have inflicted.

    Let me say this again...

2 weeks down has been said by the top IS to find out how widespread this virus has infected the USA AND to see how it has infected the world too.

NOT one news broadcast has said 2 weeks and go back to normal yet. At least I haven't heard anybody say it.

Hopefully people are keeping a 6ft distance ie. socially distancing themselves, but I think nothing short of gloves and masks is really going to make a dent in this thing. I mean, I feel it's a bit of a joke here in NJ and NY where the governors have shut down all non-essential businesses and it turns out that is a very very small subset like hair and nail salons and restaurants that don't do take out etc.. I don't see any reduction in people out and about near me whatsoever. I was actually surprised that they allowed liquor stores to remain open.

We were told to work from home on Saturday.
Only come in for emergencies. All we are doing are "emergencies".
    So now what?
So far I've had a to work a couple of hours today, and 5 hours on Saturday.
I don't see this changing anytime soon.

Couple of good points have been made in regards to my post:
    1. China did screw us all by trying to hide the epidemic at first....in typical Communist propaganda manner they tried to hide info.
    2. Yes, we should be more self reliant which is my point....there is one major factory in rhe US, in Texas which makes less than 1% of the world supply of medical masks. That is unacceptable. As far as the tests go....not sure why we insisted on developing our own when the WHO offered a version which was ready. A good source tied in to the medical community informed me there is a 15 % false negative rate with the tests we developed.
    3. I am not willing to go to bed with China on economic issues and agree with the administration's stance on Hauwei. My point was we should chill out on the rhetoric now and be smarter than to poke the bear. Also my intent was not to bring up the unproductive argument of what is racist or politically correct. I just don't think now is the time to "rally the base"
    4. Ventilators and hospital beds are one thing....masks, gloves and effective tests are another. When the leader of the free world calls an outbreak of an unknown disease a "hoax"....you have to wonder how many people believe him. Yesterday while at Walmart picking up a RX...I was appalled how many people were standing wayyyy to close to each other, no masks, no gloves, and minimal help from Walmart with their standard tube of cart wipes that everyone was touching to use.
    5. We may find that states that lock down their citizens on lock down start reporting lower infection rates. Where I live it is left to the discretion on the local government or municipality....which is a questionable strategy IMO based what I have seen in the stores and in public.

    Stay safe everyone....

There's definitely a stink in our nation right now where some who don't want to work for fear of infection HAVE to and some who want to work are told to stay home.

I'm seeing this scenario in person right here in Wilm. NC. big time. Our local BUSY burger joint was empty the other night at 5:15PM. There's ALWAYS some people in there but not now. My wife just read on their website they have just switched to take-out only. We're going to order something from them tonight.

I went to Lowe's home improv. to get fire-ant killer Fri. since my wife is freaking out about some mounds appearing in our yard and sidewalk.
The cashier, an elderly lady, looked exhausted. I asked if she was ok. She said it was nonstop all day for her. She said she was worried about getting the virus since she lived with her elderly parents. It was 5PM when I saw her. :# I said I was glad we only had one possible case of the virus here in Wilm. and she shouldn't worry. She then told me she heard it was Community wide-spread now. WHAT...? I didn't hear that yet.

I asked if she had sanitizer and she said yes but she had so many people to check out all day she didn't use it between every customer. I told her I stay at home and don't go out very often and I probably don't have it yet, and wished her and her parents well.

    She looked very run down!
Worrying about bringing this dreaded virus home to her elderly parents is killing HER!

And there are lots of people parroting that and you can't really blame them, since some very authoritative sources are putting that notion forth. When there aren't enough to go around for those on the front lines is propoganda justified or should they tell the truth? N95 masks aren't that expensive to produce but they would've had to be stockpiled and distributed in the billions, for a pandemic such as this.

When you see many of these older people running the cash register at any store, they are most likely doing so because they need the health insurance.

Now, force them to come in to work during a virus outbreak, without supplying them with masks or gloves, they'll still come because that health insurance is gold to them. Plus they are the ones most at risk to die from this.....and we can't supply them with masks and gloves. Shame on us.

I know we can't prepare for every frickin thing that can befall our country, but pandemics and viruses are not our first rodeo. We've been down this road many times. Why we don't have warehouses full of supplies is beyond me. Government owns a heck of a lot of empty buildings all over. We find money to hand out freebies left and right, but cringe at stockpiling medical supplies ? One buys votes, the other doesn't. Hopefully now this will change.
