I think the POTUS calling the virus a Chinese virus does nothing but deflect from the US not being nearly prepared enough for an outbreak which was reported to the WHO on December 30, not to mention squash any hopes of cooperation between China and the US in containing the virus and sharing solutions. Also, this also digs us a bigger hole which is the trade war which will only deepen the recession we are headed into. Just another view of how to view what is going on....everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Last time I checked, no country was prepared. Period.
All of us here had lot's of warning. Yet few were prepared for
what was coming. China did do the world wrong in spreading

If there is any POSITIVE that I hope comes from this, it will be a near-complete cessation of US industries outsourcing most production to China (as well as many other foreign countries). Anybody who has been in business knows that it is terribly irresponsible to rely too heavily on one supplier for critical raw materials, components, or finished goods, just as you shouldn't depend too much on one customer to buy your goods and services.
The US gradually over the past three decades began to source far too much of its finished products and components from China. The US financed the ascendancy of China in the global economy, while China ripped off US technology. The China Virus crisis may wake up the "sleeping giant" of the US much like Pearl Harbor did at the outset of WWII.
With respect to the current financial crisis we did this to ourselves by going to Target, WalMart and the like because we, as individual consumers making individual buying decisions, preferred saving a few cents or dollars on goods, fueling competition on price more than on quality and driving production to low-cost countries, China being the largest beneficiary of this phenomenon.
"Bigger hole which is the trade war?" Bring it on! We cannot expect to remedy decades of bad policy without experiencing pain. Let's pray that treatments and a vaccine are found for Covid 19 before the financial crisis morphs into a Great Depression like the one in 1929. At least, this time the US economy was the strongest it has ever been going into the financial aspects of this crisis, and the US healthcare system is more innovative and resilient than ever before.

A few points to consider.
1. If you assert that using the terms China virus or Wuhan virus is racist or malicious in some way, you're going to need to show your work there. Are the terms Ebola, Zika, Marburg, Lassa, Lyme, MERS, etc all racist/malicious too? This is NOT a new thing, naming virus strains after their place of origin.
2. You are correct, the US was not prepared for this virus. But I ask you - who was? Seriously, what nation was prepared for this? People like you say "The President didn't have a plan, and was not prepared for this crisis". Ok, let's dust of the prior administration's global pandemic plan, and use that - Oh wait, that plan allowed seventeen thousand (17,000) people to die. Further, If our current administration had been spending billions two years ago building ventilators, manufacturing masks to store in a warehouse, people like you would have ridiculed them non-stop for reckless spending. By your logic, we should be spending billions (trillions?) to build underground cities, so we can survive when an asteroid collides with Earth and makes living on the surface impossible. That way, we will be "prepared" for that future crisis, right?
3. You seriously want to get in bed with China?? China has been a flat-out criminal actor in this whole thing. Partner with them? Please... They knew about this at least a month before the rest of the world was informed. They suppressed individuals who tried to warn the world. They tried to shift blame to the US for the virus. They falsified data. Spare me your platitudes for China. And where are the animal rights activists speaking out on the Chinese Wet-Markets? Do you know why they have wet-markets where Chinese citizens buy, sell and consume rodents, civets, bats, etc? Because the Chinese government is a garbage government. One more piece of evidence that socialism does not work.
4. The trade war with China is necessary, and this whole incident proves it. We have sold far to much of our country's soul to China in the name of cheap tvs, drugs, toys, clothes, etc. Its going to be painful to ween ourselves off Chinese crap, but it needs to be done, and this administration is the first to EVER stand up to China. Yea, its going to hurt - but it is of the utmost importance.
As you said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion...
“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”

I keep seeing comments about "2 week quarantine". You guys do realize this thing isn't over in two weeks, right? Some people still aren't isolating or taking this seriously. There are going to be waves of infection. The isolating is just to help slow the spread.
“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”

A few points to consider:
1. You are correct; the current administration was not prepared for this “crisis”. I ask you though – Who was? You want to say that the current administration did not have a plan for this “crisis” – Ok, how about we dust off the prior administration’s global pandemic plan? Oh, wait – that plan allowed seventeen thousand (17,000) people to die… Further, if the current administration had been building ventilators and masks and stockpiling them two years ago, people like you probably would have been screaming at the pointless spending on things we did not need. By this logic, we should probably be spending billions (trillions?) on underground cities, to prepare for the future asteroid impact that will render surface living impossible. We have to be prepared, right?
2. If you are going to claim that calling this the “Wuhan” or “China” virus is racist or malicious, you’re going to need to show your work there. Are the Ebola, Zika, Marburg, Lassa, MERS and Lyme diseases/viruses racist/malicious as well? Funny, no one though “Wuhan virus” or “China virus” were racist terms until the president used them. There is plenty of footage on line of the same woke-scolds using the same terms prior to the president using them.
3. Are you really willing to get in bed with China? China has been an exceedingly bad actor in this whole thing from the very begging. They kept it secret for over a month. They silenced scientists who tried to speak out. They falsified data. They tried to blame the US for the virus. By all means, keep defending them. BTW, where are all the environmental activists and animal rights activists protesting the Chinese “wet-markets”? Ever wonder why they buy, sell and eat bats, rodents, civets, etc in these wet-markets? Further proof that socialist regimes are garbage.
4. A trade war with China is inevitable if we are to ever break their hold on us. We have sold far too much of our soul to China for cheap clothes, tvs, drugs, toys, etc. The fact is, this administration is the first to ever take a stand with China, and it is LONG overdue. Yes, it will be painful, but it is essential to the future health and security of our country.
As you said, everyone is entitled to their opinion…
“Human beings are born with different capacities. If they are free, they are not equal. And if they are equal, they are not free.”

I mean, I feel it's a bit of a joke here in NJ and NY where the governors have shut down all non-essential businesses and it turns out that is a very very small subset like hair and nail salons and restaurants that don't do take out etc.. I don't see any reduction in people out and about near me whatsoever. I was actually surprised that they allowed liquor stores to remain open.

2 weeks down has been said by the top IS to find out how widespread this virus has infected the USA AND to see how it has infected the world too.
NOT one news broadcast has said 2 weeks and go back to normal yet. At least I haven't heard anybody say it.

I've been lucky enough in my life to have worked for bosses that have given credit to employees during company meetings many, many times.
But employees that are snakes in the grass are everywhere!
Only come in for emergencies. All we are doing are "emergencies".
So now what?
So far I've had a to work a couple of hours today, and 5 hours on Saturday.
I don't see this changing anytime soon.
