That's pretty alarming. I'm wondering though if a better comparison (as opposed to 100th case) would be cases per million population, since the US has a population that is more than 5x the population of Italy.

I also heard that Italy only tested the severe cases, and we are starting to ramp up testing in a major way here. In NJ you only need to have a 99.6 fever, shortness of breath, and a cough to get tested in one of the drive ups.

So far, about 25k cases in the Us. Only roughly 270 deaths. That puts us at a tad over1% death rate. How is that curve comparable to Italy with their 8% death rate ?

The graph only compares number of cases, and how they progress by number of days. Our graph will look much worse than Italy because we were far behind in testing, but are now attempting to correct that. So the number of cases will no doubt rise dramatically here.

It is very difficult to compare death rates. In Italy, about 20% of identified cases have either died, or recovered. In the U.S., only 2% have died or recovered. So of all those that have been identified, but not recovered, many may yet die.

The death rate in Italy is likely to go down (the worst cases may have died first), whereas in the U.S., it may increase. Only time will tell.

I think the death rate in Iran is also very high. I suspect our death rate will increase as we learn more.

The U.S. case numbers from the John Hopkins University Tracker show that the U.S. now has the third highest number of cases in the world outside of China, behind Italy and Spain.

At least this means that efforts to catch up on testing are making steady progress.

And Rachel Maddow spews the truth? :s

I just read that whole article and it makes "Common Sense" to anybody with 1/2 a kids brain.
It IS why Italy is a hot spot for this virus's killing of many more than elsewhere.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

It is overtly racist, and uses heresay instead of factual reporting.

This is not racist? Where are the sources for the claims? They are pure fabrication.
Hundreds of thousands of Chinese immigrants now live both legally and illegally in Italy, with 300K legally registered and many more illegal.

Italy recently entered into a new economic partnership with China called “One belt, One road”
China has revitalized northern Italian ports in order to transport goods more efficiently to the rest of Europe

The mayor of Florence initiated a social media campaign called “Hug a Chinese” using Chinese produced video as an engine to dispel the “racism” against the Chinese in Italy

Its the old fall back on blaming immigrants or people different that I am ploy. Been used throughout history to stoke fear and anger for political purposes. The problem is people have a tougher time identifying it through professional looking internet "news" sources.

I've heard that this virus is much harder on men than women since when they lose work they lose a full $1.00 compared to women that only lose $.79. My thoughts and prayers go out to those losing that $1.00.

Uncover DC is a conspiracy website, with an extreme alt-right bias.

Anyone getting their news from such sources lacks the intellectual capability to distinguish lies and misinformation from facts.

If you actually read the article it was not written by Uncover DC. It is actually a composition timeline of other articles written by the New York Times, New Yorker, Reuters, etc

There is indeed a quote from an old NYT article at the beginning that merely explains how the Chinese have been attempting to break into the Italian fashion industry since 2010. It seems to have been inserted to lend credibility to all of the theory that follows alleging that the Chinese practically inject Italians with COVID-19 because of their plan to take over the world.

Other than that, it’s mostly fiction, stringing together a bunch of ideas that were gleaned off the internet, with no actual bona fide reporting of their own.

It explains exactly why some people insist on calling the Wuhan virus, which even Breitbart and Fox News do not do.

“Why Italy” is a false claim anyway. From the graph posted earlier, and from the figures reported by JHU, the U.S. is on exactly the same path. In fact, probably a worse path than Italy.

@Joey_V I know you probably don't have time for this but if you know about or have any experience with Hanta virus and Swine flu fatalities can you briefly describe how they compare with Covid-19 fatalities?

@Joey_V can you or anyone let me know if you answered this? I got swept away into another dimension shortly after I posted this and it's buried in twenty-plus pages since.
