A Valuable Lesson !

A few days ago, I posted that I’d been experimenting with room treatments, by just tacking up some old rug samples here and there.
I was surprised how much of a difference it made, so I invested about 80 dollars into buying 24, 12” Dacron fiber acoustical tiles.
In every upper corner, I placed two tiles against the walls and a third above them, making a three sided open box.
Down lower, at speaker level, I placed two more corner tiles and then ran intermittent patterns along the back and side walls.
On my metal outside door, I hung a small vintage wool oriental rug.
I can’t believe how well this treatment worked !
So, this is the conclusion that I’ve come to.........
It seems that I’d been chasing my tail for years, looking for the ultimate speaker, where the whole problem was my room.
I’m now listening to my home built Dayton Audio 6 1/2” full range speakers and they’ve never sounded this good before !
The other truth I’ve discovered, is that I don’t have to set the volume anywhere near where I used to, because the speakers are no longer competing with the room noise.
My final project is to fill my metal LOVAN speaker stands with sand, because they ring like a bell when you tap on them.
Anyway, that’s my two cents for the day.

So here's a few pics of my sound treatment.
The grey panels are compressed dacron fiber and trim easily with a box cutter.
