Creap factor looks to be high. If it's anything like 'Signs' it'll be good. He does a great job at creating suspense.

I agree with you about the suspense factor, but his movies always end up being a bit hokey. I mean the 'monsters' and all. I hope this is different.

Good to hear William Hurt's distinctive voice again. Been a fan of his work for a long time, but his career has definitely been in the toilet for a while.More later,

I think the new film "The Village" looks promising, but what I'm afraid of is that it will turn out like some of Night's other films: all build up and little pay off. 6th Sense was good, but Unbreakable was too slow and moody, and Signs was tense but then had a really lame climax, especially given that he gives the invasion a global scope. I hope the new film has some serious scares and some gruesome images. Let's really see what these creatures look like, and have them be an integral part of the film rather than just a minor effect.Current System:

his movies always keep me on the edge of my seat. no other director does this to me. part of m. Night's appeal. its the tremendous suspense he builds up in his movies. I think he does this much better than a lot of other directors.
Sometimes just the sound of something happening is more frightening than seeing the creature. with only the sound.. your mind is free to wonder what the hell this thing looks like that makes such horrible noise. only your mind can take you to the more scary thing only you can think of.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Serious scares I can do but I sure hope he does not throw in some gruesome images. They are not need and as most other gory movies go are not scary. I do highly doubt it will be gory seeing M. Nights past movies, hardly any gore at all. This is one reason I enjoy his movies so much. Great suspense / scare factor and no gore.I hope the new film has some serious scares and some gruesome images.If...

I'm a huge fan of M. Knight. Love the way he uses our minds to scare us. i feel it's all in the subtlety of it.
I will be there opening weekend.
Thanks for the link Ron. -

I agree that in certain films, the audience's own psychology can be the more effective tool in creating fear. The Others is a good example of this, I feel. However, in monster movies, I like being able to see the monsters. Even the oldest monster movies got that right. If I wanted my imagination to do all the work in a monster story, I'd read a book. However, in film, I feel, if a director sets up a "monster" story, which I feel Signs is, I think the monsters should be more visible and interactive, at least towards the end of the film, to produce some serious scares. A well realized monster on film is a good way to get some scares, especially if a mundane world is set up in the first half of the film. Alien does this well, and so does Jaws, but by the end we've seen a good deal of the creature and its interaction with the characters. Signs was a bit of a let down there for me, because even the last scene with the alien, where it is actually in their home, was comprised of a lot of reflection or suggestion shots. The mystery is over, let us see the damn thing already! Of course this may have been a budget limitation, but it still bugged me. I just hope The Village has a bit more interaction with the monsters, and that they are more visible. A more exciting climax to a film which I assume will create a great deal of tension. That's what I mean by gruesome images--scary monsters. I don't mean to suggest that a film needs gory violence to be scary. I agree that blood and guts can be implied and still be effective.Current System:

I read somewhere that Sigourney Wearver said she never had nightmares while filming the Alien series of movies. She said she had nightmares filming this movie FWIW.

Signs wasn't a monster movie. It was about one man's faith... that just happened to be tested by an alien invasion. The aliens are secondary to the actual story, which is that test of faith. That's why so much time is spent dealing with the death of Graham's wife, Ray Reddy and the relationship between Graham and his family. I was glad M. Night didn't turn it into a monster movie.
I'm hoping he keeps the gore out of The Village as well, and I hope the monsters are only hinted at or seen briefly. We've become so desensitized to gory images that they're no longer an effective means of conveying horror. The direction that I hope horror movies start to take is using sound more effectively. Probably the scariest movie I've seen recently is THE EYE, which was primarily scary because of some very effective surround sound. Signs did a pretty good job with the sound, especially when the aliens are running around all over the house trying to get in. Let's hope The Village pushes this a bit more.Equipment list:

On DVD tomorrow, finally. Can't wait to see this in a good theater instead of those crappy commercial theaters.If...

I watched it last night...
DVD has good picture quality and sound quality...
The movie itself was okay, I probably won't watch it again, but it was okay for a once viewing... -
POS movie, no way in hell im buying this one....i already know the ending, and thats the entire point of the movie. boooooring
-
When I saw it in the theaters, I thought it really dragged on too much. Once the twist was revealed, the movie should have ended... but it went on for what, another 15 minutes? Another wasted 15 minutes of my life.
If nothing else, I thought the blind redheaded chica was hot. Gotta love them girls with an Irish background

I just bought it over lunch. Will watch it tonight. After reading some reviews I have VERY low expectations. Maybe that's going to be a good thing.
Also bought the 5th Element UE DVD. -

Why would you buy something that has you thinking very low of it -

I don't know how I can think 'very low' of it until I watch it myself. My expectations, however, are indeed very low.
The only movie of M. Nights that I wasn't satisfied with was 'Unbreakable'. I collect DVDs so I bought it. I don't rent movies much at all anymore. If it turns out to be a **** I can sell it. There just haven't been many movies I've purchased that I think suck....so we'll see what happens with this one.
 -
this one rivals unbreakable for the spot at suckiest M night movie, but hey then again i didn't really like any of his movies except signs...and thats just because aliens scare me. **** plot tho lol
-
Sixth Sense is still his best to date. everything after that one has gone down hill steadily.
although, i did like Signs alot. but still not as good as SixthPolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Just watched it. It was OK for a while, but the last 20 minutes of the movie took a nose dive into the toilet. The movie had good acting, but overall it is not a movie to recommend for purchasing or viewing.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I thought it kinda sucked overall. And...... did anybody else catch all that crapola on SciFi about it, and the "conspiracy"? Ugh, what a let down.Go BIG or go home! -
I watched the movie on the flight back from Singapore a couple of weeks ago, stunk!, and I thought the Forgotten was bad....I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

See, now my wife and I both really like The Forgotten.Go BIG or go home!

Thought it would be poor based upon the many reviews ... but I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the performances, the suspense, and ultimately the message conveyed.
One aspect of the film that did bother me, as a result of it's patent improbability, was the idea that someone could be attracted to Sigourney Weaver. That's completely unrealistic. If she were the last woman on Earth, I would walk to the spot on the planet exactly opposite her, and **** until death.

I saw the trailers and thought this was gonna be an awesome movie. Then we went to see it in the theater and it SUCKED! It started off great and eery but it started stinking after about the halfway point and never got better.
