Every year, our scout troop has the honor of placing flags on veteran's graves at a local cemetery, the destination for the Memorial Day parade. Personally, it's a very moving and gratifying experience. The weather tonight was just perfect, making for a very enjoyable evening. With lots of participation, we placed just shy of 6000 flags in 3-4 hours. Here's one small area.

Our troop placed flags again the past Wednesday evening. We were blessed with perfect weather for a second year in a row. For me, this is by far the most meaningful and impactful thing we do. Can't help but shed a tear or two while placing the flags. Thank you to all vets and may you have a glorious Memorial Day!d5wm5o879lh5.jpg

    Very nice.

Both of Mrs. H's parents were veterans (her mom was a WAVE in WWII); the flags will likely go on their graves tomorrow. Memorial Day is very moving -- Harvard (MA) has a wonderful little parade and memorial service every year; it usually moved me to tears.

No Memorial Day parade or service here, though, AFAIK. :(

@nooshinjohn had an excellent and moving post last year remembering Memorial Day. I went back today and re-read it. It moved me today as it did last year.

Remembering all those who served, and gave the ultimate sacrifice for this great country of ours. Thank you!

Wonderful legacy to show those who served and who paid the ultimate price how grateful we are as a people (regardless of color, sex or politics) for their service to our great nation.

Our idiot governor finally saw the light and allowed the flags, which were produced months ago, to be sent out. Because of the late notice, our troop needed some help this year, but it got done and that's all that matters. Another beautiful day to honor those who fought for this great nation.

Yeah, I do not know if the flags are being put out this weekend at our local cemetery or not. We'll find out Monday when we go over to place planters at Mrs. H's parents' and aunt's graves.

Our scout troop put out flags this morning at one of the local cemeteries on all of the veteran's graves. Everyone wore masks and sections were assigned to families so there was no overlapping and social distancing requirements could be met. It was a fun activity today to honor those who served.

That's awesome Dave! Michigan is a no-go for the boy scouts, which saddens me. And no Memorial Day parades this year. WTH? Our stay at home order just got extended until mid June.

Can't believe I didn't post pics last year. Shame on me. Tomorrow is flagging day at Forest Hills Memorial Cemetery, Reading PA. Troop 377 will be out in force to honor those who gave and those who gave all. Tears will be shed(at least by me), pride will displayed by all. First years will(hopefully) have a new appreciation for the freedom they take for granted. Don't let me hog the show, post your patriotic pics!

One more from last night after we completed. I can't begin to explain how impactful the experience is. I'm sure something similar is done all over this great country. Get the youth in your life involved. They may not understand the significance of what they are doing in the moment, but I guarantee they won't forget it.f94od5k629ay.jpg

Relax dude. I'm emphasizing how import it is to do and continue doing what the OP has done and more attention needs to be brought forth. For without thier sacrifices, we'd all be worse off.
