Outdoor projector setup info

Now that we had the backyard done with turf and rock the wife would like to be able to view some movies outside. This will be nothing fancy as far as SQ or premium PQ, everything will need to be portable. I have some speakers (4) in place under balcony that I already use for background music for BBQ's. I may add a center and a sub just to add some bottom but nothing hard core. looking at one of those 12' blow up screens and a mid to low range projector that will support 1080p. Any suggestion are welcome

BenQ 1080 model can be had for $550.00 new. If you have an overhang on one building ? I got a 12' across pull down used on CL for $125 used. Many cheap pull down choices new if you have the overhang to keep it out of the weather when not in use? Good luck. D. Merry Christmas.

I would like to have some type fix screen that can pull down, but I live near the foothills and the winds, and sun would clause weather damage, also the balcony is not a solid cover over the patio area. I am looking at a Dell 1510x right now but I have heard nothing but good reviews about BenQ gear.

Basically, we use an old projector (not 1080p, but 720 and it seems to be pretty darn good. The screen is only 92"... a little small, but it's what I had. I made 'legs' for it out of PVC pipe. The PJ is something I bought used, dirt cheap at Penn State Salvage. I use our Oppo BDP-83 as the source and pre-amp and a B&K AV-5000 to drive the 5 speakers. I pull speakers from the house (Paradigm Studio 40 fronts, Boston Acoustics VR-920 center, and Polk RT25i rears) and set them up with cheap speaker wire. Works great. It does take about an hour or so to set up, and about a half hour to put it all away, but I know nothing is left out in the elements.

Highly recommend doing this. Makes for a great time. We're looking forward to Summer of 2017!

I pulled the trigger on a refurb BenQ MP626 projector and a 12' inflatable screen. The BenQ has HDMI input and a native res of 1024 x 768 but supports 1080P. I will use an old Pioneer BD 120 to play movies and an older Awia AV X200 to power the speakers with an old KLH 100 watt sub. I stopped by a local DJ equipment shop and the guy had a old band amp case on wheels that he will fix up for me, so I can put the gear in and this will keep it portable. I think the wife will love it when its all done.

Living in SoCal, I'm sure I will get a chance soon to try it all out within a few weeks, I will keep you posted.

As always in SoCal Christmas is great, 3 days of rain and on Christmas we get clear skies and mid 50's temps. My 16 yr old beg me to brake out the screen for a test drive. I used my old Dell 2200mp projector and hooked up an old Xbox for the kids to play on.

The BenQ came in today, doing a test run in the garage feeding it via HDMI from an older Pioneer BDP 120. The PQ is very good, looking forward to having it outside soon on the 12' screen.

My next phase, besides painting the deck, is to improve on the sound quality. I have a Polkaudio CS1 coming for the center and I have some old Optimus Pro X77's in the grarge for surrounds, may add a second sub as the one I am using is on its last leg.

Just picked up an Epson Home Cinema 1060 projector, the Benq MP626 did a good job to start off, but its time to step up PQ game for the backyard. Will post some picks later tonight.
