The things some of us will do for our 4 legged family members.

I'm starting to wonder if I need my head examined. My Aussie Shepard has been a family member here for 9yrs. Recently a lump was discovered in her r. front lower leg and determined soft tissue sarcoma. Had the operation to remove and turns out it was larger than expected. Long story short, she is now hospitalized and being "aggressively treated" for open wound recovery and saving her leg.

This looks like it will cost several(and I mean several) thousands of dollars and of course no guarantees. This probably makes little sense to those that have never fallen in love with a pet but I'm sure those that have can relate. Would I ever spend that kind of money to acquire a 4 legged companion....nope. Will I spend it to hopefully save the life of a good friend...yep.

Anyhow, give a hug to your loved ones today(regardless of how many legs they may have).
Yep, my name really is Bob.

Good on ya man. The key word in that is “family” and it sounds like you’re doing everything you can to take care of yours. I don’t blame you one bit for spending that money; I’d do the same. Now I’m gonna go take my spoiled mastiff for a walk and plan a nice steak dinner for us for the evening.

@muncybob Your heading down the correct path. The love and care for my best four leg friend is up there with my wife, son & grandson. The love and emotional support you & your family have received from your Aussie Shepard for 9 years is irreplaceable and unsurpassed by any other type of pet. Do what your heart and of course your finances enable you to do. Prayers and best of luck to all concerned.

Our 14 year old American Eskimo has a couple growths of this type. Vet told us they are not causing her issues or affecting her health in any way, so they felt it was best to let them be rather than risk the potential complications of surgery at her age.

Praying for your four legged friend.

Larry, we know what you are going through. Been there more times than I want to think about. Nipper is in good hands and we just hope things work out. Our other dog Tucker is lost w/o her.

    Bob,
It’s a decision that each and every family has to make on there own. If you can afford the care even with a slight struggle then by all means it’s the right thing to do.

When my Boxer Chopper took ill a few years back over a Thanksgiving weekend, it cost me over $3K to keep him hospitalized in emergency over the Thanksgiving weekend till we could get the right tests done to confirm cancer was killing him as he showed no signs of weakness till Thanksgiving Day.

We all should do the best we can do for our pets. We make that commitment the day we bring them home.

Best wishes to your dog and family during this time

Hope everything turns out well for her. I understand completely why you are doing this as all of our dogs, past and present were very important members of our family.

Our dogs are always happy to see us and we can't always say that about people can we?

Larry, sorry to hear about Roxy as we all know how much it hurts to lose a pet.

You're doing the right thing - if it was between our pets and money we choose the pets EVERY single time. They bring so much and ask for so little. It's the least we can do for them...….as long as it is within the means, there will never be a question in my family's opinion. Take care and good thoughts sent your way and to your 4 legged friend
