Someone threw out a pair of old polk audio speakers. I cannot find a model number on them but they do have a serial number. The serial numbers are
4 14130 and 4 14131 respectively. Does the 4 mean that these are Moniter 4 series? Are they good speakers? I have a pair of mission bookshelfs currently do you think these are better? Any help is appreciated.

I think that the "4" does mean Monitor 4, but post some pictures for us to be really sure. Or look under the "Products" button for vintage models. http://www.polksda.com/ is also a good resource.

They appear to be monitor 4's
    They are http://www.polksda.com/monitor4.shtml

How would you compare them to mission model 70's?

You could search the specs out and look at what they should do on paper.

...or you could listen to them and compare, trust your ears and your taste and make a judgment.

? Harmon Kardon AVR 55 (dead; replacing with Onkyo TX NR-616)
? Polk RTA 11TL's (FR and FL)
? Polk TSi200's (RR and RL)
    ? Polk CS10 (Center)
    ? Polk PSW-350
    ? Grado SR-60i Headphones
    ? Fii0 E5 headphone amp
    ? iPod touch (8 gig)
    ? iPod Classic (80 gig)
? Mac Mini (as media server)
    ? xbox 360

If you like them better, then enjoy the find. Personally had a pair of Mission 764i's and did not like them even a little bit. Sometimes, it comes down to appearance, how do they look compared to the Missions. Not that there are anything wrong with Mission, I just did not like mine.

If they are Monitor 4's, they are a pretty nice speaker.

They look more refined and traditional as the missions don't have a removable grill, in fact there is no real grill only the fabric which covers 60% of the speaker. I am going to hook the polks up tonight and check them out. They are only used for tv so I doubt that I will notice much of a difference. For Music and movies I use either the pair of B&W 603 s3's that I bought at a garage sale or the B&W 602 that I bought at a thrift shop.

Nice thrift shop finds. I missed a pair of sda's for 35 bucks by a day at my salvation army. Just picked up a pair of fist series EPI 150's for 30 bucks and a pair of Synergistics for 15 bucks. I have no need for them though. (the epi's look so retro) I am trying to stay away from brown speakers because my wife can tell they are new. No, just kidding, sort of, they just dont match. I have a pair of Boston t-830's refoamed and ready to go in my shed, but they look like my old paneling in my rec room.

I was never much into speakers until I decided to buy the 603 s3's. They blew me away and now I cannot stop looking for speakers and other audio equipment at thrift stores and garage sales. It seems like these polks require more power than the missions.

If you like the sound of B&W, then I doubt you'll like the Polks as B&W's are not musical speakers.

I never heard a pair of B&W's in person, but they sure look cool. If speakers are not musical, then what are they good for?

Ideas??? Paper weights, door stops, picture frame holders, although that last one might be tough with some of the top mount tweeters.:D

How many tweeters ( in each ) to start with?
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

    One in each.

    Ok that's a CRS+. Next question: blade-blade or pin-blade?
