Center channels are for 5.1 in general. they're to play voices and some other sounds.
You're showing one of Polk's older most affordable models. They're very well made too. But then there is this center channel. You could use two and turn them on their sides and rock out if you wanted. I think they weigh 60lbs. each.

There are certainly loudspeakers that are best with, e.g., small combo jazz, or chamber music, or little girl with guitar music.

Aren't most end tables fitted with an 1/8" hardboard backer board? Think of the airwaves inside that cabinet won't you!
