I have never flown on a week long vacation. I am looking at 9th thru the 17th of March. Or any thing close to those days. Going from Mn/St.Paul international airport to San Diego,Ca. International Airport. The hotel we like so far is the Bahia Resort Hotel. Car rental will be a must also. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.
Peace. D

I have late teen stepdaughters so we usually use southwest for everything since they can each take 2 suitcase and a carry on. And that's just for a week!!

Anytime that I go to San Diego, I find a way to spend a night or two in Vegas on the way back. A nice way to wind down from those boring perfect weather days....or a day on the slopes in Tahoe.

I will be in San Diego a couple of days after you leave to bad we could of had a beer together. The Coronado hotel is a great spot, but the Bahia is also a good choice. If you get a chance check out Old Town it's a good time, and grab a little authentic Mexican food at the Mexican Cafe or kitty corner across the way is a place called Fred's excellent Carne Asada tacos. Carmel, or La Jolla is also worth checking out. Have a good time.

If you are a Costco member, Hyundai Elantra or similar for the duration (03/09 - 03/17) is approximately $305 of that $107 is local taxes/fees. (Alamo)

You would want to check with your auto insurer to determine if you need extra insurance. The one issue seems to be loss of use if you are in an accident. I rented car only with Costco in March 2018 for 8 days in Maui for $400 unlimited mileage.

Another item that may be a savings with Costco are the great rates for parking you personal car at the Mn/St.Paul airport. Used this at Atlanta airport for Maui trip.

I looked at hotels with Costco and the Bahia Resort Hotel is not listed. The Hyatt Mission Bay is shown for total price of $2,051 (2 people) for your dates with $520 local taxes/fees. In Maui, we stayed at a upscale condominium resort where the taxes/fees were high.

Hope this helps or can serve as a comparison point.

When I was in San Diego, I stayed at the Kimpton Solamar hotel. Close enough to the waterfront. Met Doug @dpowell for a lunch too!!

If Mn/St.Paul is anything like Philly, long term parking at the airport is expensive. Line up offsite parking ahead of time & save some $$.

Was there for work last year and rather enjoyed staying at the Grande Colonial. In case you end up needing another hotel option. If you're good with managing your money, you might consider opening an airline credit card. Delta looks to fly out of MSP to SD, and they have a gold AMEX card that will give you 30K Delta Miles if you spend $1K after opening. So if you're good with managing your money, get the card and pay $1K worth of bills on it, pay it off, and then you'll have 31K Delta Miles, which should be enough to cover at least one of your two tickets.
