It is 3 degrees, windy, and dropping fast here.
On the bright side, it's clearing up, and the air after the storm is very clear.
There's a foot or more of snow outside, blowing and drifting.

I am hoping to see it from inside. :)
If it is spectacular, and/or if I cannot see it from a window, I just may have to trundle out with a long lens.

Going to try to get a few pics. Will need to leave the gear outside for a bit to take on the 7 deg wind chill.

air temp is already slightly below zero here, with a stiff breeze.

I tried one of my son's lenses that's at our house (probably because of space limitations at his??) :) This is an ancient 200 to 600 mm f/9.5 zoom Nikkor of no particular repute. It worked but either I didn't manage to get critical focus or it's not too sharp. On the other hand, it might've been fogging up, come to think of it.

It's that time of year :/

When we lived in Milpitas (during a pretty serious drought: 89-91) the storms in the winter would come through on about seven day cycles... on weekends.

Yes, that is what I heard as well.
Viewing conditions are near perfect here with a few exceptions.
The moon's going to be right over the roof of the house ca. midnight.
    It is audaciously cold.
Midnight is late for an old guy.

Other than that, an excellent viewing opportunity.

Bitter cold and strong winds here in Wilm. NC. but the sky's are crystal clear and the view looks just like the picture DOC posted.

My wife loved seeing the start of it BUT she puts her job first and just went to bed. She might get up later and see some more of it. We like these kinds of things! :)B)

The shadow is creeping very fast over the moon! :)

That sounds like a winner. :p

I'd be like jamming my one Pioneer to "Set the controls for the heart of the sun" on repeat...and drinking Snapp's.

Snapp's used to warm my bones in the winters up in Va. 30 years ago. Peppermint at that. :p:D

I'm glad the east coast has clear viewing, we've missed a few other major events due to cloud cover in the recent past.

Plans are in the works for the 2024 solar eclipse, we have friends that live on what will be the center line of the event.

Will need to play around with some of these a bit in post, but a quick touch up came out ok.

I really needed ballast or something on the tripod, with the steep angle of the camera I believe I was getting just a touch of vibration. No room for error when the moon is moving. Along with a better lens.. :*

Very nice -- it'd be great if you'd share your exposure details, if you wouldn't mind.

I took a look at about 11:45pm when there was just a crescent of bright light on one edge -- but I didn't drag the camera out.

    Thanks.

I used a Nikon D810 & Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR ..not the best lens for this type of work but is my longest reaching lens right now.

The red moon was a substantial crop taken in manual mode, VR off at 280mm, f7.1, 1/15, ISO 1600, WB Auto but changed to 6800K.

The second grey moon was taken with the same lens and also a big crop, manual mode, VR off @ 220MM, f5.3, 1/1000, ISO200, WB auto and not changed from 4972K.
