Seen this today. Looks like 8k will be completely different HDMI cables. If you look close it says fiber optic HDMI so I wonder how this excatly works? Can you use them in an existing HDMI socket or are these going to be different sockets(that see light) than a normal HDMI socket? Is the light converted at the head of the cable? There is no copper wires or copper clad steel wires in this cable.
Interesting to say the least.

I would guess that both the player and the TV would have to be 8K-compatible. It is possible that they will also work in an existing (2K/4K) socket and carry those older data types. There isn't a lot of 8K information out there (at least the last time I checked) considering how long it has been since the HDMI 2.1 standard has been released.

I never adopted 3D and I have nothing 4K yet. People who collect movies must be going nuts trying to keep up? Good luck. D

I'm with Dabutcher, no 3D or 4K for me. Until it becomes like a holographic display Blu-ray is good enough for me. Of course my vision sucks so that may be a factor :'(

3D was never going to go anywhere they've been trying since the 50's. The best chance was a few years ago and they couldn't even decide on the glasses.... active or passive and the cost of them. Again it was dropped like a hot rock.

I had a pretty good collection of movies but i never went backwards trying to replace the older with the newer version whatever it was. I just went forward and bought the movies shot in the format it was shot in.

8K might play out like 3D. It’s benefit will only be obvious to very few setups with super large screen projectors, so it flops. With that said, I love 4K played via an Oppo 203 on a 75” Sony Z9D. Can’t imagine upgrading to 8K.

From what I've read it has been in use for awhile and they have down converted for mainstream.

If any of you have a good 4K source and watch uncompressed content it’s absolutely mind blowing
Can’t even fathom a proper 8 or even 12k setup. I’ll keep going with it albeit later than out of the gate.
