New In Ceiling speakers question!

Never had in wall or ceiling speakers before. I'm putting new ceiling V60 6.5" speakers in the ceiling with a 10ft high open attic. Do they need any kind of backing or enclosure on the attic side to sound right or is it fine being open? Thanks.

I use in ceiling speakers for my HT. Attic Ceiling height is roughly 5ft in the center but much lower as the roof slopes towards the walls. I don't have any enclosures for mine and they work fine in their rear surround duty. What role do you have in mind for the speakers you are installing?

They are infinite baffle I believe, designed to be installed like that. However, some do build boxes for them.

Like @dpowell I have a similar attic and mine are Zone ii speakers in a large living area. They do sound a bit thin in their, but I think for surrounds would sound fine fwiw...

I built enclosures for mine simply because I didn't want the loose fill insulation right up against the speakers. It reduces the efficiency of the speakers but as rooftop says 'I think for surrounds would sound fine fwiw...'.

I did it for mine (surrounds) , I based the dimensions loosely on the fire box definitive sells. I like that it limits the back wave and helps with insulation. I didn't compare with or without but I feel the sound is fine.

I used my in-ceiling as surrounds for years, not bad at all. It is no match for ear level surrounds but they are better than no surrounds. They are also great for WAF. My wife was pissed when I added the T15 for surrounds, couple movies later she said they are alright.

I now have my 4 in-ceiling speakers for ATMOS/DTS-X/Height speakers, sounds fantastic.

My in ceiling speakers only have insulation laying over the top of them. Not sure if that is ideal but it is what I had to work with.
Mine are just a hair forward of the listening position for Atmos and DTS:X. I only have 2 up there. So I guess its 5.2.2.
