Dr Who First female doctor not feeling it....

I was all excited to see Jodie Whittaker playing the "doctor". I had no idea how her spin would be at the tardis.
The first episode seemed a bit slow, odd and unusual. I attributed that to "her/him" regenerating or the newness of a new actor to the role.
But as the episodes came, one by one, I started to feel letdown, bored and even not excited to see one of my favourite shows anymore.
She was "okay" as the doctor, and I loved her on Broadchurch, but really no flame or excitement in her portrayal.
The Stories seem to waver between childish and Political correct ideas that seem quite forced and not entertaining or suspenseful at all.
They seem to just be going through the motions, but I feel no emotional connection or to the story.
I loved David Tennant and Matt Smith, and expected to like Jodie even more.
Not to mention the "gaggle" of companions, that are more than needed and none seem vibrant or exciting like Amy Pond was, not even close.
Total letdown but do any of you guys feel the show really slipped down a few notches in quality?

Saying that it's "too hard" to pursue your dreams is no different than admitting to yourself that you are too lazy to achieve them.

There seems to be a more focused effort (blatantly) at making specific social and political commentary. I also find it personally distracting having 3 traveling companions instead of one. This means more time has to be spent developing those characters and it seems to have caused many story lines to drag and plod along. They seem to be focusing on more minutiae than in the past.
The extra characters, unfocused story lines and some pretty campy situations which rely too much on the "sonic screwdriver" to deliver them from danger or reveal information rather than using the Dr's natural wits or charisma and charm has turned me off a bit too.
I have no issue with the Dr being a female, but it seems to have messed with the continuity of the show because somehow the writing has changed focus or might be compensating in some way because this is the first ever female Dr., or it's just poor writing in general. The whole franchise seems less clever than it used to be.
I am only 3 episodes in, but I keep expecting more and I come away slightly disappointed.
No spoiler please as the discussion continues.

It was like they went from being "dark" to trying too hard or going for shock value to be dark. Actually, around the time that Bill Potts became the companion. She was aggravating, couldn't stand her and The Doctor basically turned into a whiny, self-absorbed little ****.
I thinks we agree totally!
Her acting is fine, but the story, the words and the situations seem more set on teaching the audience a lesson that is quite simplistic and boring.
I see so much political stuff trying to be forced in, but in ways that are obvious, make the story seem like trite fluffle.
I love a female doctor, but want one that can tell great stories and keep my interest!
Do not want to be hit over the head with a hammer telling me "Humans bad" "Males even badder"....like I want a timeless story not drivel based on what one political party finds offensive in 2018!
I am waiting for the obligatory "Kennedy was shot by a guy with a GUN, guns are bad" Episode...

Johnny Whitaker played "Jody", the brother. Anissa Jones played "Buffy", the younger sister. She OD'd in 1976.
That what I said, Buffy Foster died in Silence of the lambs. What did you think I said?
To be seriuos for a moment, they were supposed to be twins and they neverthat show said which one was born first. I binge watched that show on Prime all the time thinking "who knew?"
Haven’t seen this new doctor. Was excited when I learned Capaldi was finally being replaced, but forgot to check when the new episodes aired. Guess I liked Capaldi even less than I realized.

Maybe you should binge watch something with a little less controversial, and suspenseful, maybe The Flying Nun.
You are right. I am sorry.
Matt Smith, hands down.
His sidekick was also my favorite: Karen Gillan. {sigh}

I liked David Tennant best as the doctor, but Karen Gillan as a companion.
Matt Smith still very good though!
