I can't get em all. Estate sale misses today

Options
I arrived 1/2 hour early but there were 20 people in front of me. 1/2 later there were 50 people behind me.

Here's the ad.
Of course no picture of the HPM100s!! :s:'(

I wanted this amethyst geode but didn't get it. It was 32.00 and had a COOL mining theme set-up inside of it. I think the Iron Pyrite was part of the geode but I could be mistaken. It was SOOOOO cool. Dang it! But that's not the only heart breaker!

This estate seller NEVER takes pictures of speakers for some unknown reason. I missed out on some Klipsch Heresy's a couple of years ago. They were basic birch and a weird poly finish on them. But they were 50.00 for the pair. :o:D That's one pair his lack of speaker pictures cost me. Then today the HPM100s. :s X2 now.

I haven't been to an estate sale since that one with the Heresy's I don't think, but today I wanted to see how much the little Pioneer silver face receiver would be priced. I saw in the picture it was in a garage. The ad also had a newer but kind of cheap pioneer receiver which I could tell was in the living room. There was also a cheap TT I think also. Well I thought cheap receiver in the house, nice older silver pioneer in the garage.

So I went to the out building cottage first because I could see inside the house garage and the background didn't match the photo. I was first to reach the pioneer alright but 120.00 on the tag was out of the question for what I think is an SX450. I didn't even look at the model when I saw 120.00. Tomorrow it will be 60.00 if it's still there. Well I went into the house thinking the amethyst might be there because of a high price.

I fought the mob of humanity and turned the corner to go into the living room and right there was a BEAUTIFUL pair of Pioneer HPM100s. :o:o . NO PRICE TAG ON THEM... :s:s . That means somebody bought them or wants to. I looked at the back tag... :s again, they are the 200 watt version. :'( . Well I missed them but still inquired about them but a bunch of ask them, ask her, ask him crap which I did and the main man said he did price them...

Well I searched for the Amethyst Geode. Nothing in the house resembling that amethyst geode. I saw some other rocks and gemstones but they were very small. I passed. Well I left and on the way past the payment table, There was the GEODE with 32.00 tag on it and some couple was taking pictures of it with their I-phone and commenting on how cool it was.

I asked the lady who was also behind the payment table, foolishly thinking I'm the only one who would want to buy it at 32.00, is this still for sale? Before I got for sale out she was shaking her head no. :s DANG IT AGAIN! I wish I had a group of people to spread out and be the first to nab things I want.

There was a man who had walking issues due to a broken back when he was 17 and his wife that split up. It was cool to see that. Going to the cottage I asked him what he was interested in. He said clocks and radios. Oh, maybe he wants the pioneer silver face. I'd let him have it if he wanted it but he stopped at some clocks and I went 10' further to the pioneer I spotted.

I met up with him in the house later on when I was checking out the HPM100s and I asked if he saw the clocks in the den. He said his wife had already nabbed the tags off the clocks he had on a list for her to scout out. He said about 5 from the den would be his. B)

You guys think I have a lot.....This guy's estate home and cottage collections make me look good. I wish my wife was with me to see I'm not really that bad after all. :D

sorry for another long post but I wanted to take you along on my let down searching quest I took today. :)

    Makes sense.

In the house, people seemed to want to stand in the doorways. where nothing was.

Come on people...move out of the way!!! >:)

One younger woman standing in line kind of beside me before the sale started, told me why her and her friend had started to laugh. I though my fly was open or something. But the girl just had to tell me it was because they took a notice of the age of the 70 people in line...we were mostly 50 and above. a lot of 70 year olds I'm sure.

That last one I attended years ago was mostly 30 year old's.

I felt old at that one but felt young at this one. :D

One of the advantages of this part of FL is that there seems to be no market for audio gear (yes, I realize this is also a disadvantage, but hear me out). With the estate sale I went to for my TT, we were near the end of it as it was around 4 PM, pretty much everything was priced super cheap, and due to the fact that there was no where else you could put anything, I decided nothing (or very little) had probably been purchased.
Another story, according to my grandpa who frequents the GW I bout my LSis at, they had been there for weeks, along with a full 7.1. All priced super cheap. We asked the sales lady where the rest was, she said someone walked out with it the day before. :/
But basically, because there is no market seemingly, all the deals go unnoticed until I can get there, Which is handy, because my mom who usually takes me isn’t willing to get there a half hour ahead of time. :)
    End rant. ;)

I'm thinking of going to get the Pioneer for 60.00. It'll probably still be there although there was one guy telling his wife as he turned it on that he wondered if it still worked. He might've paid that 120.00. :o:#

Yard sales were nice to go to around here for years. People can't be at every yard sale when they start in the morning therefor upping the odds we'll find a deal early on or even later like you mention if nobody doing stereo system building goes to the ones you/we go to.

I've gotten yard sale deals late in the day MANY times over the years. :p

Going to check out yard sales in my area for tomorrow now.

Nice story Tony. Sad to hear that one got away! We've all been there before.

I remember not too long ago when a complete SRT setup was for sale locally. Prior to joining this forum I didn't even know about the existence of the SRTs! IIRC, price was about 3 large. Let that one get away.

Cool thing about our journey is that there will always be another opportunity!

It seems to happen when our funds are the lowest too.

But my funds are ok for the moment and I took a wad this morning and didn't spend a dime. I wanted to though. :D:p

I like hitting the Estate sales, found some stuff worthy of buying Albums, CD'S not so much stereo items most are not worth buying seen lots of mid 80s all in one systems with racks from the likes of Pioneer, Kenwood, Technics. I did miss out on some Fischer tube receivers that I had read good reviews about. Sounds like you had a good time.

I think the estate seller should start at 8:00 and go from there.

But to see almost a 100 people waiting to go into a ranch house is NUTS.

It's like a frikn Black Friday door buster event!!

It's amazing the congestion in there this afternoon. They even had a bunch of coin mint sets and other coins laid out on a table that could've easily been stuffed into a jacket or pants pockets. I collected coins for years and I just shook my head and walked by the mob in front of that table.

Estate sales are a lot of fun. You never know what you will find or the prices. Sometimes it really sucks when you wait two hours in line to be the top ten in the door and drive forty miles to get there and the speakers or item you want either gets bought by the guy ahead of you or they want more for the item than it’s worth to you. Peace. D

yea. I thought about going back to see if the little pioneer was still there. I thought about 60.00 price tag ( if it was still there ) and decided no. I have 3 of them although one is just for the knobs and faceplate and what ever. It's rusty as heck on the bottom so it's trash. But one works perfect and one has one channel out and other issues but it looks great.

I then thought about the 12 noon deal when it would be 45.00 if it was still there. I still thought no, I'm tired and want to paint some more. Well it started to rain right when I was ready to get to painting. :s

So I did a little house cleaning and then my wife comes in saying she saw a mouse or rat go under our house. So I bug bombed under our house hoping to suffocate that rodent out from there. Nancy stood by where she saw the bugger go under but it didn't come back out that way.

I know those bombs work great and there's no way I don't think it could breath that crap for but a few seconds so we'll put a rat chew block trap out again now and hope it gets hungry and chews this poison if it's still wanting to hang around here for the bird seed.
