how much power for lsim 705

Looking at integrated amps around 100 wpc to 120 wpc. Will this be enough power for lsim 705 speakers. I understand that more power is better, but how much better in SQ between
100 wpc or 120 wpc or say 160 wpc? Huge difference? slight difference? not much difference? FOR THESE SPEAKERS

Also anyone try the Luxman L 505 uxll (120 wpc) with these speakers?

If you believe basic audio physics.............

The lsims are 88 db at one watt input. 10x the power gets you an additional 10 dbs
So at 100 watts they can theoretically put out 108 dbs at max volume (but no one should ever play an amp that hard) and that is way too loud for a living room .

Stepping up to a 120 watt receiver will only get you ONE extra db (no change). 160 watts will only get you two additional dbs (still no real change). And 200 watts will only get you three dbs (still doubtful if you will even notice). Again no one plays an amp to clipping (max). For real word listening you are using a fraction of the max power.

You can see you quickly start getting into the point of diminishing returns. More important than the amps max watt rating is how well it is made and the size of the power supply.

All in the current delivery. Really not much difference between 100wpc and 160 wpc in the big picture. If an item doubles or almost doubles the power say 100wpc 8ohm and 200wpc at 4ohm it has a good power supply and will not run out of gas very easy. Most will not these days because power supplies are the most expensive part.

Ideally, you want lots of good, clean power. Figure at least 500W/ch to cleanly handle all musical spikes.

  • Not looking for more power to listen louder but for getting the best high, mid, and low SQ out of these speakers. Already have lsim 705, current amp right channel went out, looking to replace with a good integrated. Sounds like 1 or 2 db more will not change SQ . Thanks!

Power really doesn’t let you listen louder. Power lets you listen cleanly at any level.

Yes, and the more quality power you have the better the stereo sounds.

  • I had read somewhere that Polk suggested these speakers need at least 150 wpc . That is why I was concerned with only 100 wpc . But sounds like 100 wpc of quality power will be fine.

As long as you don’t exceed 70db on your SPL meter.
