^^So Charley, I voted for higher taxes for schools, metro parks and libraries. Does this mean I should take in a migrant? With all due respect, please correct me if I missed something in my translation.

    Bingo.

The whole idea behind earning a paycheck, is to keep as much of it as you can, not keep adding hands to take more of it.

I voted, though here in California, I wonder if it even matters sometimes. At least that 20 cent a gallon surtax on gasoline and increase on registration fees will get repealed. That was worth the trip for that reason alone.

Sorry John, gas tax repeal was defeated. Good thing also, since the roads do need repair.

With taxes collected in previous years, the roads should've been kept in good order all along. Here in Wilm. NC, I've seen our local Gov. let hundreds of apartment complexes get built AND THEY STILL WANT TO RAISE OUR TAXES. They even came up with a "Water RUNOFF" :o tax based on our yard size. What a bunch of bull!

Look at our SS taxes that were withdrawn from a lot of our paychecks for 50 years. Our elected government buffoons decided to pillage it all for other causes. :s

Also, :o where's the GOLD that was in Fort Knox?

Maybe they do Bud, but the elected officials need to learn how to prioritize things within a certain budget instead of treating the taxpayer like an open checkbook.

Was in Wilmington this last spring, beautiful area. Lots of young-uns....and old drunks. :) Spent some time downtown, and at wrightsfield beach.

Gold in Fort Knox ? Hmmm....could be why they keep fighting an audit of the place. I have no doubt some gold is in there, but not nearly what we are told to believe.

Before the gas tax hike CA was 3rd highest in gas tax and one of the highest is car reg. Now we are the highest in both. I'ts not about needing more money they already had it but spent it elsewhere.

driving down the same road for 30 years to get to my dad's house. It's a major road and it has always been screwed up. $1 say's it doesn't get resurfaced next year either.

Roads is just another way to do a money grab
    1 Schools
    2 Police
    3 Fire
    4 roads

They can't just come out and say we spent YOUR money somewhere else now give us more.

I cant tell my boss I spent my paycheck now give me more, I'll get laughed at while I'm getting fired.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

So often we hear politicians decry they need more money, in order to provide the services they are supposed to. Instead of looking internally, making things more efficient, cutting costs, etc.

That would be analogous to a private company simply raising their prices of goods and services. But in the private sector, eventually the competition drives them out of business.

We've all seen it countless times. Tax hike here, millage there, all for a good cause. But what happens is that money gets reallocated to another expenditure, because of mis-management, or even malfeasance.

I voted only one time IIRC for a tax increase, for state parks and recreation, because it was written into our constitution that money could not be reallocated. Sure, they could amend our state constitution, but that is much harder to do.

As I get closer to retirement, one of my considerations for a retirement home is not only the locale, but the state/local government! Texas is high on my list, as a result. SW region of the USA is also a consideration as well. Low taxes, less intrusive government, did I mention 2nd amendment? Hope to be a snow bird someday, fly south to avoid the freezing cold Michigan winters!

These Congress people give themselves raises without asking the people if it's ok. Don't they work for us?

These past 2 years has put a light on so many congress people and other top officials that are just down right crooks. Also evil people with no morals are up there making rules and conniving against the other political parties.

I wonder why we have 2 parties anyway. They usually just lift their noses at the others.

Our country has suffered tremendously for the past 60 years. :'(

Yeah, believe me it was a stretch for me to "trust" our government. So far, so good. But, I would not be surprised if they challenged it.

We're in the middle of a process. Our founding fathers were pure genius. Even they at the time had a general disdain for government, while they were giving birth to ours!

“There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”

    -John Adams

I've read and heard over the years that our founding fathers were brilliant and thought of most everything. I feel we almost lost the USA 2 years ago. It was the first time I felt like my vote was going to help our country. My wife also agreed that we needed to vote 2 years ago.

We agreed that we needed to go again this time too.

I saw on TV that the age group of voters for these midterms was spread out pretty evenly for a change. I like that a lot. Younger people need to get more involved somehow.

We had to go to UNCW next door to cast our votes and we saw a lot of college kids voting. I liked seeing them getting involved more. B)

Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
  • ^^I agree on the young people voting. I expect even more in 2 years.
