Finally today I found time to hook up the reference 50. Buying it without the remote nor manual was probably not the smartest thing to do. I managed to get it working in stereo mode, but there are many parameters that I need to customize to get it working properly.

Nonetheless I like what I'm hearing so far.
    2.3TL, 3.1TL, SRS 2, SDA 2B, SDA II,SDA 1C, 7B, 7C, 7 series 2, 10B, 5JR+, 5JR, 5A, 4.5, 4, RTA 11TL, RTA 8TL, RTA 8T, LSI9 Ebony, LSI7 EBONY, LSI7 CHERRY, LSIC, RTI A7, RTI A3, CSI A4, CSI A6, F/XI A4, RTI4. That's all for now.

I'd make an offer on that bad boy....essential to the operation of your preamp. Even the asking price is fair.

Well the adcom slipped away, you know the sayin, you snooze you lose.

So I settled for a B&K reference 50. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get it dialed in sometime in the next few days.

Let me look around but I might have a original owners manual for the Ref 50 I'd be happy to send your way if your interested.

Send Mantis/Dan a PM, he might be able to copy one of the many he probably has.

I should add, most adjustments can be done by the front panel, but there is a bit of a learning curve to be proficient at it. In direct mode, you by-pass all the parameters for sound adj. anyway so that might give you a feel for the sound. Most processors, any brand, are a pain without the remote.

You're right on the money again Tony. I can eventually get it dialed in without the manual or the remote, but things would surely be easier navigated with both of those items.

Connecting the Z1 video output to your tv will aid tremendously ..I believe you can still open the on screen menu from the front menu button.

I would strongly recommend connecting a monitor to it....I dont know how you can fully set it up without a display

Hey, didn’t you say you were operating this for 2-channel?

If so, you’ll want to set it to “Stereo 2” rather than 5. As it is, you’re sending signal for surround stereo and you won’t be hearing all the goodness with only two speakers connected.

If you're lucky, it may already be setup for Direct 2

Parasound PH/P850 was the best under $500 (new) preamp I've heard.

Not too far from setting up a HT receiver these days. You set up each input, name it, decide what speakers will apply to it, all the parameters for that, what digital/analog inputs will be used, blah blah.

@msg knows a great deal about these pre/pros and other B&K gear in general. He helped me setup my Reference 30 when i first got it. I only wanted it for 2 channel as well and it did very very well as far as I'm concerned.
