My deepest condolences Tony, but you did the right thing and she was 98 years old in dog years is a good long life and you didn't let her suffer. It will hurt for a while but console yourselves with the fact she had the best of everything you could give her.

So very sorry, Tony. Those who have never owned a dog can’t really understand how hard it is.....it’s losing a family member. Unconditional love and acceptance- truly mans best friend. As hard as it is to lose your buddy, remember all the times together. It’s a bond that will last a lifetime. You brought so much to her life and she to yours. Sad day and my thoughts are with you.

Man that's tough. Was shedding a tear last night for a dog I had to put down in 2007.

Your pooch had a lot of red healer in her, looks a lot like my current dog (9yrs old). Crazy smart dogs.

Sorry for your loss Tony. I couldn't watch my buddy Jed waste away. We laid him to rest back in September. I will raise a ribeye bone in both their honors tonight.

Sad to hear, same thing happened to our St Bernard a few yrs ago...seemed in good health and then suddenly a rapid decline. Love our pups, wish they could stay with us longer though.

Thanks guys, truly the best dog I've ever had the pleasure of sharing life with. Aside from that one issue, health wise she was perfect. 2 doctors even commented that her numbers in every test were literally spot on.

When your best buddy is old and shows signs of it, that's one thing. It's another when an apparently healthy dog, full of life, needs to be put down. Given her age, we considered the possibilities of an operation, Chemo, etc., but thought extending her life for a year was short sighted, selfish. What kind of quality of life would she have had. Doctors thought even a year was being optimistic even after all that, and that pretty much sealed the decision.

We have a place here in Buffalo Grove Illinois that is pretty much like a Mayo clinic for dogs. Every doctor specialist you see for humans, they have the same for dogs. This made the confidence in our decision slightly easier, but lets face it....it's never easy.

Appreciate the raised glasses gents...lets raise them this weekend to all our 4 legged pals, past and present.
