Oh Man Yeah

So it's a nice SoCal Saturday..

I got up and was having my coffee and was board so I started reading the manual to my Marantz SR5010. Yes I did find something major out.

When I would listen to music I would press the pure button and the AVR would say direct and rock on. I didn't know that if I press it twice the AVR would go into pure direct mode.

So there is two pure modes
Direct
Pure Direct

Oh man yeah! in pure direct with the new Signatures is audio bliss for me.

I was going to work in the yard but finding this made me want to do nothing but listen to music all day. To do this without pissing the wife off I did some house cleaning.

I had the bedroom system on for part of the day
Scorpion Eye to Eye
Eagles Hotel California
Rush Moving Pictures
Queensrych Empire

Once I moved to cleaning downstairs it was
Direstraits greatest Hits
Peter Gabriel So
UFO Obsessions
Led Zeppelin 3

The audio quality is just amazing now.

By now the mother in-law was getting red and I could tell the wife was getting pissed. But hey the house is GI clean.

When I would listen to music on my Sony 5700ES I would put it in AFD and rock on Now I have found the equal mode for the Marantz and it is better than the Sony, then again the Sony was never hooked up to the Signatures.

Time to BBQ some burgers...
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Did they explain what the difference is between Direct and Pure Direct? If so then what is it? Thanks.

    Press PURE to select “Direct”.
    Direct playback begins.

Press PURE to select “Pure Direct”.
The display goes dark, and Pure Direct playback begins.
    The PURE DIRECT indicator lights.

This mode is for playback with higher sound quality than in Direct playback
    mode.
This mode turns off the main unit display and analog video circuit. Doing
so suppresses noise sources that affect sound quality.

In Direct and Pure Direct sound modes, the following items cannot be adjusted.
    0 Tone (v p. 121)
    0 M-DAX (v p. 164)
    0 MultEQ® XT (v p. 167)
    0 Dynamic EQ (v p. 167)
    0 Dynamic Volume (v p. 168)
    0 Graphic EQ (v p. 169)
0 This can also be set by pressing PURE DIRECT on the main unit.

If you have the sub set to LFE+MAIN the sub does not s h u t down.

With my S60 I have it set to LFE as the S60 have nice bass. Hotel California was just sweet

in the bedroom with the S20 I have it set to LFE+Main

    Both sound great.

Okay. Seems to be similar to my Onkyo SC5509 pre-processor.

hrm my CD6004 has modes to increase sound quality, one hit turns the digital outs off, a second one leaves those off and also shuts down the display to provide as much clean power it can to the transport, DAC and output stages...odd for a disc spinner.

Not too odd I think. Oppo has a button on the remote that shuts the display off, pure audio or something like that. Yamaha has a pure direct button too that does the same.

Pure Direct for most AVRs will preserve the analog 'chain' thru the AVR as analog with no A/D and D/A processing.

Which is why you don't get the sub output.

You 'lose' the bass management feature, but for music, meh - if it sounds better push that button!
