What next

I just purchased a pair of rtai9 speakers as my front mains and was wondering what speakers should come next, center, sub, and ceiling, I will be using marant 5011 receiver, do I need ceiling speakers or can I get away with bookshelfs on an angle, I was thinking about rt 4 or 6 for center, going all polk, this is my last system so I want nice, not looking for perfection, as i have a lot of hearing loss on one side, 70 inch cheaper samsung for tv if it matters, thanks for your time, music an tv is 50/50

Welcome to Club Polk! The next purchase should be the center channel since that carries the bulk of the load for movies, go with the biggest center that you can get. then if you can get FXis for the rears you can put them on the wall and have good coverage. Or you can get the sub before the FXis.

  • I was looking at the csia6 and 4 for the center channel but if in the end if the receiver only puts out 100 watts a channel why go bigger, more than happy to do so but don't want to throw money away, and thanks for the welcome, trying to get a half decent set up going but am on a disability pension (progressive ms)

I have the SR5010 and its a good receiver, you should be happy with the SR5011.

CSIa6 is a way better sounding speaker than the CSIa4. I had a CSI5 I had to sell to get a smaller one to fit in my TV stand. Wish I never did. I just built a new stand and can't afford a new CSIa6 so I went with the TSX 250c. The big center does make a difference.

If you can ceiling speakers help out Atmos and DTS-X. for the rear the FX speakers are great.

Sub HSU or SVS. There is an SVS on Amazon right now for $400 if that is in your budget.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Let's back up a second. Those RTi A9's are never going to perform well with an AVR. You need to add an external power amp or return them for the A7 or A5. After that get the CSi A6 and a sub. The RTI A3 will be fine for the rears as its mostly ambient sound.

  • I love the 9s so if they don't perform I'll amp them up, I k ow there's subs 3 feet wide but will a 10 or 12 do, I have my son's 10 and it work well enough (brand unknown )

It's not a matter of if, they won't. Your AVR is rated at 100wpc with ONLY two channels driven. The more channels driven that rating will drop like a stone. Fortunately, your AVR has pre outs.

Since the sub will be doing double duty you should look at a 12".

  • Well thanks everyone, it's a good start and I have some decisions to make, hope it turns out the way I'm hoping
  • Does a beringer inuke look after the power amp end, it's 150 wpc nu 1000 dsp, best buy is my only store in the area, and I've had nothing but bad luck ordering online

I would steer clear of pro amps for those a9s. Keep a look out on your local Craigslist, and keep contributing to this forum. There are great deals that come up here, and you can have confidence in sellers because of this community.

You do not want a pro amp. One of the Parasound amps will help tame the bright tweeter.

Definitely going to want to look into an external amp for those, great speakers but they definitely need power.

I know it's not 100wpc +. But it will beat that avr for sure. It will relieve the power and demand on that avr.

François is a great guy to deal with. I bought my speakers from him. He's in Kingston you'd have to make the drive but he's a couple mins off the 401.
  • Thanks for taking the time, what do I do with my sub if I can pick up this amp, it goes into the same outputs, 7.2 , 2 subs but preouts for amp use them, if I'm right, their closed till the 7th

This amp would hook up to the left and right pre outs. Won't affect the sub. That goes for any amp you buy. It will plug in to the pre out of which ever speakers you wish to power externally.
  • Got it, looking at it wrong, use the front pre out, they show a zone 2 with an amp and speakers, which was throwing me off and the words pre out were below the sub outputs which was confusing me, didnt expect rca type cables to be used either, returned the black 9s and got cherry instead, plus picked up the cherry 6 center channel, can't wait to see them, and thanks everyone couldn't have done it without you

Glad we were able to help. Trust us when we say that the next step is getting an external amp to drive the fronts.
  • NeXT step, and we'll figure out the rest after lol
