Even though I don't get the f and f deal up here in Canuckland, the sale has got me wondering about the 702's again. I currently have fx500 as my side surround and rti4 as rear surrounds. I also have a set of fx1000 that I picked up while ago, but one of them needs some work so i am not using them yet (one of the speakers not producing much bass...hopefully not blown). Anyhow, has anyone heard the 702 and the fx500/1000? The front of the system is all lsim. Just curious what type of improvement I could expect. I don't even know why I am posting this as my first priority is to get the fronts all setup properly this spring and fiddle around with room treatment!

I've yet to hear the 702's but have an LSiM703/706C front and had the FX1000's(RT5000), FX500's. If you have the cash and are a die hard Blu-Ray movie watcher then go for it just to get that perfect timber match.

Other than that, spend the $750/1500 (Sale/regular price) somewhere else in the system. The F/X500 and F/X1000 are fabulous surround speakers.

I was leaning towards trying to fix the fx1000 and using them as side surround and maybe the 500's as rears...or moving the 500's to another room and use them as surrounds and continue with rti4 as rear. Never realized what nice condition the used fx500's were in until I compared them to the pair of fx1000's I had picked up. Having said all that, I dont remember the last time I had the chance to watch a movie nice and loud! Thus no rush on the surrounds currently. Doesn't seem like there is a lot of experience out there with the 702f/x. I think you are correct in saying the money would be better spent elsewhere in the setup..or not spent at all! Maybe one day the 702's will make their way to my house!

I've been following this thread for info. I don't have any experience with any of these speakers, or even much surround experience for that matter, but in my research so far, I've picked up from those with much more experience than I that seems to mirror that of Walt's contribution above - timbre matching is more critical in the front soundstage, and not so much in the surrounds. Again though, if you are a critical surround listener, you may find benefit in matching them. I almost picked up 702's on a couple of different occasions, but in the end decided I'll just try surround with something lesser at first. I don't think I'll listen to music in surround, but if I did, that would probably be the only reason I think I'd want them timbre matched.

I actually tried to move on a set I saw on CL out West some months back. The guy had a set in good shape listed for $300. I just missed them by minutes!

For 300 I would be willing to try them out! I remember seeing a post on here about 300 for a set on CL. Too bad you missed out on them. I used to have R15 for my surrounds few years back.with my rti setup. I switched those to rti4 and noticed a nuce improvement, but that switchover only cost me 100 dollars...not 750 USD!

I would seek out some lsi/fx if you can, they matched quite nicely with my lsim. I saw some locally for 300 bucks recently.

When I first upgraded to polk monitors over a sony HTIB I left the surrounds as the old speaker. The first movie I watched star trek, as the intro music panned around I could hear it go from good to crap.
With lsim in the front and fxi a4 I have never noticed the sound change. So I can't justify paying 750 for the 702, better for me to spend that money elsewhere.

So would you get a Rythmik 15 inch sub or these lsim 702's . That's my dilemma right now. the 702 are good price with the F&F deal

Sub for sure. A good sub is what makes a theater.

I haven't properly set up my svs sb2000 and I haven't heard the rythmik 15 up properly yet, but I would say the subwoofer would make a bigger impact on home theatre experience than the surrounds. Just my opinion. Best of both worlds would be to buy both the sub and the surrounds....and invite some polkies over to enjoy them after. :p

Yeah So I think I'm going to get both. I already have VTF3 HO sub I want to get rid of. So I will buy the Rthymik sub and the lsim 702's and call it a day. They should go well with my lsim 707 and 706 I just got.

I was wondering if my wife would notice if I switched from 705 to 707. I figure if she saw the bill, I could pass it off as a shipping cost.

I'm thankful mine doesn't give a **** what I buy. I only get a head shake when more speakers come into the house.

Robert, curious, your HSU VTF-3 HO sub seems to be capable. Are you finding it lacking? How big is your space?

It's ok. I have about 3500 cubic squar feet. I just need moooore bass. Plus the rythmik is a servo sub so it's probably more accurate with music. Either way they just delivered the lsim 702 to my house. Those things are huge. I am going to set them up tonight and see if they sound good.

I believe any of the LS series of In-Wall/In-Ceiling would match the LSiM's since they have the similar ring radiator tweeter. So, you should be good with:
    • 255c-LS (center)
    • 500, 700, or 900-LS (in-ceiling)
    • 265-LS (which for some reason are NOT on Polk's site) for in-walls
The 265-LS can be found on ebay:

Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio
    Fronts - LSiM 705
    Center - LSiM 706c
    Sides - LSiM 703

HA HA!!! The looks are deceiving on paper...its such a smooth and awesome shape for a surround speaker. The specs tell the real story.

Myself, I did not want such a large surround like the RT1000f/x I had. So, in my new space I found a set of smallish Artison Portrait LRS units. They have the same shape as the Polks.

I would love the Polks myself but even at the sale price is a bit much for me.
