Hopefully Justin will jump in on this one, as I have a little bird at Polk telling me that he bought one ;)

I too, got my WRX in the past month, but mine is a wagon (yea baby!). So I'm looking for options for replacing the factorys in there.

Justin, I "heard" that you used some new EX3 stuff, how does that sound? Any rattles and stuff? Did you have to take the door panels off? I haven't looked at how to attack this quite yet, but getting ready to.

Any other opinions or experiences that people might have? I looked into the MOMO 6.5s for the front, but they are going to be wayy to deep. I'm thinking maybe a single MOMO 10" but that means I have to rip out the stock 6-disc in-dash changer.

I like the MOMO theme though, getting the MOMO Race AirLeather shifter soon, to match the MOMO steering wheel (stock!).

    I read a post on the i-club (www.i-club.com) about someone putting a 6.5" Momo set in the front AND rear of the WRX. I thought that sounded crazy, but I figured out how they probably did it.

    Yes, I put the new EX3 components in my WRX and they sound amazing! I had to make a spacer for the front (1/2"). I believe that you could put momos in the front, but you would have to make a larger spacer (maybe 3/4") and/or cut the plastic in the front. Besides, if you get the Momos, you would want to see that sweet metal grille.

    The back, however, are a different story. There is no way you would get 6.5" Momos in there without cutting the METAL on the door. But I found the 5.25" EX3 fit without cutting, and I didn't have to make a spacer. The problem is, there is a little bit of rattle against the door because the plastic touches the speaker. I'm thinking of cutting out the back plastic in the door so the speaker is showing through. Although, if you do that, it would be possible to get 6.5" in there without cutting the metal.

    Taking the door off is quite easy. I can email you instructions if you need help with it. It's just a matter of confidence in "pulling" the door off. You won't break it, but it feels like you will at first. I believe there are posts on the I-club also with detailed instruction.

    Oh yeah, and get a replacement stereo. I know the in dash 6 is cool, but the eq is horrible. A new stereo will make those replacement speakers sound 10x better -- and of course, you can add a sub.

    Awesome, found a detailed explaination of how to do it on i-club.

    I also noticed that a lot of people are putting the stock 4" speaker replacement in the back doors, but the 5.25" EX3 (coaxial) will fit? Oh, but you had to drill new mounting holes in the rear though right?

    Another question, on the EX3 components in the front, where did you place the crossover? Also, did the EX3 tweeter fit in the factory spot a-ok?

    You do any DynaMat? Hopefully Paul will heed to my request for an article on that for the next Speaker Specialist ;)

    Yeah, you can just replace the stock speakers with the same size, but for what? The only thing I had to do was to take the "plastic holder" out and drill new holes in the metal. The metal is so thin though, you can use any drill bit to drill a new hole. If you have large threaded screws, you could probably just drill them into the door without pre-drilling.

    The EX3 tweeters fit fine in the front stock location. I just had to use the mounting bracket that came with the EX3s.

    The crossover was placed behind the door panels. There is a gap (when you look at the plastic door piece once you've pulled it off) that the crossover can sit. I just drilled into the metal to attach the crossover. There isn't much of a tolerance though, so use some kind of tape to hold the crossovers up and try putting the plastic door panel back on. Just make sure it fits without touching anything, then drill your holes.
