distance from front wall

When I started a thread of moving my 2Bs out more and it improved the sound I got great responses from forumites. That made perfect sense. Now my question is why if 2Bs and other Polk speakers have no rear port or rear passive radiator is the distance from your front wall uber important ? Like Klipsch Heritage series most have rear firing passives and that I wrap my head around but nothing firing from the rear this needs explaining.
