I noticed a few tidbits of info that were incorrect on this thread.
1. Plasma's last 20-30k hours to half life. There has yet to be one made over that, no matter what the website says.
2. 6.84 years is 8 hrs a day w/20k hrs, 10.27 is 8hrs a day w/30k hrs.
3. The reason plasma screens have come down in price is because manufacturers have started to be much more successful in making the panels. Originally, 5-6 years ago, when plasma's started to hit the market big, they were extremely expensive because the manufacturer was trashing 6 out of every 10 screens they made due to defects/dead pixels etc. Now they've got where they're 85-97% perfect. When you were having to make up the cost of 60% of your manufacturing costs in the 40% that were working, the cost goes up. Now that they've borderlined perfected the process, they don't have to charge so much per panel. LG has the highest success rate right now at 95-97% and any plant not at 80-85% is going bankrupt as we speak. Hence why so many plants have been bought by other companies and reworked. Anyone figure out why Gateway is no longer in the Plasma screen industry?
4. LCD is still extremely expensive and will take a few years before they get into the larger screens at an acceptable price. There's a few 42" LCD's out right now but they're $9+k. No matter which one you think is a better technology or which is a cleaner picture, there's no physical way for LCD to come close to the amount of colors produced by a Plasma... Period.
No matter how much use is on the screen, $3500 for a 15g set is an amazing deal and you should be MORE than happy with it. Problem is, no matter how nice the Plasma panel, it will wear out. Once it's dead, it's dead. Good pickup man, but now you're spoiled... hahaNever kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

When LCD/Plasma/DLP televisions come with a blow up donkey, I'll buy one.
If the atypical consumer had decent gear to begin with, it wouldn't be that amazing.
I have an Uncle, with a full blown DLP HT setup....it's very nice, and looks fantastic but I have never found myself with my pants off and jimmy in hand.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
After watching this monitor I wouldn't sell it, even for a profit.
Here is an interesting side line. I went to Sears, Circuit City and Best Buy and this is what they told me.
1. The screen needs to be re-filled with gas every two years and that costs almost as much as a new one.
2. There are no replaceable parts inside. If the unit goes bad in any way it is strictly throw away.
3. The unit will last less than 5 years.
4. The screen will burn in images within the first 200 hours of use and will have a very bad picture after that.
Now I didn't just fall out of the turnip tree. Is this a scam of some sort to sell other products or what. The people telling me this non-sense truely believe what they are saying, you can tell. After days of reading on the AVS forum where people actually use these I can tell none of it is truthful.
I would suggest you never listen to any salesmen at these stores. They are being used as part of a sales scam. I know if I had not done my research (after buying the product
) I would have probably listened to this BS and looked for something else.

Sad thing is, a guy I work with used to work at BB and initially, they were TRAINING their salesmen (if you can call 'em that) all those mythes about Plasma's. Yup, they leak! And if you inhale it, you will have a similar reaction to Arnold in Total Recall when he went outside. Beware!!!!!Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

More like brain washing. They are very good at what they do. I didn't pay it much mind but a few years ago I worked with a fellow who worked there. After a few "training" sessions he was convinced that monster cable was superior to everything. I don't mean just better either. Without monster cable you might as well throw the who system away. I never even considered the thought of them deliberately training people with mis-information.
