Yep, no matter how acclimated to audio you are, you still do stupid stuff.

Changing up some IC's for sh&ts and giggles the other day, turned everything off as normal....except the dac. Not on purpose, just simply forgot. Hook it all back up and **** if the dac turns on and shuts off right away.

I knew exactly what I had done....followed up by a slew of cuss words. Took the dac out, popped the top to see what I could see.....nothing. Everything looked clean, nothing fried. Put it back in.....same sh&t.

Now I am pissed off at myself. So I unplug it, take it out and let it sit all alone in the corner until I decide what to do with it. A few days goes by...and before I send it off to Cary I want to give it another shot. MF'er.....fires right up like nothing ever happened.....Tony breaks into his happy dance.

No matter how old ya get, how much you think you know about audio, sh$t happens to the best of us at any given moment. I got lucky this time....next time though, I'll probably burn the joint down. :)

    Lol.

In a rush one time, I hooked up my phono stage in reverse...

I plugged the TT into the outputs and the Pre into the inputs. I spent 45 minutes testing the TT and cart before I had the genius idea to double check my connections to the phono stage.

I was really mad at myself for about 20 seconds, then I just laughed at myself for a good long time.

I've done my fair share of "oops" that's for sure.

The latest was our recent outdoor gathering we had which consisted of me hooking up a persons ipod to hear a song. What was unknown to me was that ipod was set to max on volume and what not.

I then saw my 57 year old brother start to "cut a rug" in the back yard, which then I had to advance the volume dial on the receiver. After we laughed at his "dance" moves, I looked at the right speaker and this was the end result.

When upgrading tubes in my preamp I looked at the manual several times to make sure I was putting the correct ones in the correct place. It was so obvious where they went from the physical layout also. So I plug it in and CRACK! Looking closer I got two of them swapped and blew up a capacitor. To add insult to the whole mess I looked up swapping the tubes on the Manley website and it said things may blow up if the tubes are swapped. Worse yet it said something like "anyone can change their own tubes, unless of course they are too stupid to replace a light bulb on their own"...

The crazy part is that it started working again... I guess Cary makes self repairing circuits? Walt Duflock.... How can this be explained? Like it has a circuits that can go into shutdown and then bleed off?

Sometimes the gear needs to be unplugged for a bit before it resets. I sent a file player back to Bryston, and they returned it as no trouble found. When the problem occurred again (due to an external power issue) I was ready to send it back again, but right before I boxed it up I plugged it back in, and it worked. Ta-Da!!!!

Not long after getting my dream speaks sda 1cs, I hooked something up wrong and fried 2 mids and one tweeter.

Within 2 hours of venting on here I had guys standing in line with replacements, refusing money just wanting an addy to send them to, trust me there were tears.

There have also been tears lately cause its the first time my bunghole has relaxed enough to go no. 2 since that happened.

Seriously I just basically did the same thing but I tried to blow up my amp. Switched cables forgot amp was on, so I turn off then proceed to pull out audio cabinet enough to allow one speaker cable to come unhooked took all but the last fuse before I figured it out....yep I didn't do the happy dance as I'm all out of fuses

Completely identify with the above. Here, I,ve typed thousand and thousands of pages in my life, and I'm still a s(h)itty typist! lol I also suspect that I may have some mild dyslexia because I sometimes don't see the mistakes and have to re-read some posts very very slowly (out loud in my mind), looking for the errors!

    Exhibit A. :)

Sometimes I do not see the error until a few hours later. By then Polk has shut down editing. Some other, more high-end audio sites allow longer editing times, such as 24 hours to infinity, and beyond.

These days, I think some of these typos are because of the autocorrect function -- at least that's what I like to tell myself :)

over the summer I switched cable companies, and some cords in the main system were loosened a bit. I got most of them corrected, until I noticed that I only had one outdoor speaker working. Now on the one hand I don't have the excuse of, um, experience like some of yous guys, but I do have like 17 toddlers running around my house, where it is basically constant insanity. So I will make that my excuse. Anyway, I went inside and starting futzing around with the cable running to the outside, when all of the sudden everything shut down. NO, I had not turned the system off, and yes, I know better. Luckily all I lost was a mid level Denon reciever that I had only paid about $150 bucks for and gotten about a year of use out of, but still I was pissed. It was a great receiver that served my purposes perfectly. But if I had been a really expensive piece of equipment, man I would have been pissed! LIve and learn!!!
